Rockies vs. Cardinals MLB Pick – July 25th

Our under pick blew up early as Matt Cain got rocked for six runs in the first two innings against the visiting Pirates en route to the Buccos 10-3 victory. Pittsburgh remained red-hot, and those of you who took the more conservative suggestion of yesterday, simply backing the Pirates at a slightly steep price tag, at least walked away with a little winnings… Let’s see if we can make it up tonight.

We have a decent slate of action to choose from, highlighted by the second game of the intra-city Chicago rivalry, Milwaukee at Washington in a pivotal series as the Brewers try to retain their slim grip on the NL Central, and Madison Bumgarner trying to notch his first win of the season in another tough pitching matchup against the surging Pirates and Jameson Taillon.

Today’s MLB Pick:

Colorado Rockies +115 at St. Louis Cardinals -122 (Total: 8.5)
Jon Gray (3-1, 6.19 ERA) vs. Lance Lynn (8-6, 3.30 ERA)

The Rockies Jon Gray is living a pretty charmed life. It isn’t easy to amass a 3-1 record with an ERA over six and a WHIP of 1.75. Gray is still rounding back into shape after missing the beginning of the season with an injury, but fared poorly in his only visit to St. Louis last year, getting roughed up for nine run in just four innings pitched. He will have his work cut out for him facing a St. Louis team that has been playing better baseball of late and has closed to just four games back of Milwaukee after last night’s win over the Rockies.

Mike Leake fired seven shut out innings last night, and Lynn will be looking for more of the same. His WHIP of 1.12 is one of the best in the National League, and he enters tonight on a hot streak, having allowed just a single run over his last 19.1 innings, spanning three starts. He is 2-2 with a 2.97 ERA in six appearances against the Rockies.

St. Louis has been showing great discipline at the plate lately, evidenced by them forcing the Rockies to throw 39 pitches in the first inning last night and setting the tone early. If they can come out with the same mindset, they should be able to get to Gray early and allow Lance Lynn to do the rest of the work.

I’d lay -130 or -135 tonight with the Cardinals. They are nicely priced at just -122, so I’m jumping on it.

Today’s MLB Pick: ST. LOUIS CARDINALS TO WIN -122
