We notched our third straight MLB winner last night, a relatively easy winner with the Cubs and Pirates staying well under the 7.5 run total with the Cubs 4-1 win. Perhaps more importantly, the Cubs prevented Gerritt Cole from being the first pitcher in MLB history to win his first seven games against the Cubs. Maybe even MORE importantly than that was the performance of Jon Lester who looked like the ace they spent a gazillion dollars to sign in the offseason and the Cubs have won six straight games to pull to 21-15 and look like a legit contender in the National League. It will be interesting to see if the young Cubs can withstand the pressure of early expectations throughout the entire season, but there is no denying that this team has more young talent than anyone other organization in baseball. It’s going to be a fun summer at Wrigley for the first time in a while…
Let’s see if we can keep the fun going on our end as well and cap off a perfect weekend with a fourth straight winner.

Today’s Free Pick:
Colorado Rockies +180 at Los Angeles Dodgers -205 (Total: 8.5)
Kyle Kendrick (1-4, 7.65 ERA) vs. Mike Bolsinger (1-0, 1.59 ERA)
The Dodgers have lost two of three to the Rockies this weekend, including Zack Greinke’s first loss the season yesterday, but I have a hard time seeing the Rockies fun continuing today. The Dodgers are still 16-5 at home, and despite a little slump (hitting .239) in their last four games, they are still hitting .280 and averaging 5.5 runs per game at home this season.
The Dodgers are hitting an NL-best .276 this season with an NL-leading 54 homeruns. The Reds are second with 46 and third place is a distant 39. The Dodgers are hammering the baseball, and they generally get good pitching as well. It’s hard to see them not scoring some runs today.
Kyle Kendrick has the highest ERA of any qualifying starting pitcher in the league. Wow. Think about that. It’s higher than Jason Marquis! And tonight he gets to face off against the best offense in the league in their home park?? The Dodgers are going to score some runs like this game was at Coors as opposed to Chavez Ravine. Expect them to light up the scoreboard big time.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers counter with Mike Bolsinger. He is making just his third start of the season, but he’s looked good in his first appearances, especially in his last outing. He will get plenty of run support today to help him settle in comfortably. The -205 line is a little rich for my blood, but the runline is a great value at anywhere between -105 and +105. Plus money to sit back and watch the Dodgers hammer the Rockies and the worst starting pitcher in the NL? Yes please.
