After a very big money making baseball season (I’ll post my final record on my twitter @NFLSportsGeek), I’m looking to cap it off with another winner tonight. This will be my final baseball play of the regular season. I don’t usually drop big bets this time of the year, as you never quite know what players are motivated to show up and play this time of year, with the playoffs right around the corner, and others looking forward to vacation. My last MLB pick on Tuesday night provided us an easy winner in the Royals Mariners game with the under.
Thank you to everyone that has followed me this season, and congrats too, as you’ve made plenty of cash if you have tailed along. Let’s end the season on the positive side of things and bring in more green for the playoffs.

Kansas City Royals -110 at Chicago White Sox -110 (Total: 6.5)
James Shields (12-9, 3.21 ERA) vs. Chris Sale (11-13, 2.97)
There was a glimmer of hope for the Royals for a little while to make the playoffs, but now it’s time for the Royals to start looking forward to next season with their playoff chances done with. They’ll try and finish up strong against a fellow divisional foe that has seen better days in years past. Both teams will try and pick up the victory tonight with their aces on the mound for one final time in 2013.
The Royals really would have been quite the story if they sneaked in. But, they have some promise going forward, showing off some of their talent tonight with James Shields. Shields is a pitcher that when he is on, then he is on, but when he`s off, he gets absolutely slaughtered. For instance, he gave up 10 runs to the Tigers on the 6th and 7 to the Twins on August 6th. Shields always follows up with solid pitching after getting hit badly, though. Since allowing 10 runs against the Tigers, Shields has a 1.23 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. He is also much better on the road than at home, pitching for a 2.12 ERA away and 4.37 at home. Shields should have another successful start on the road against a team that has struggled to score runs all season long.
Chris Sale is the one bright spot of the White Sox season. Sale earned a spot into the All-Star game, and has perhaps given the White Sox a legitimate ace for years to come. He`s the same pitcher as Shields, in the sense that he has gotten beaten up horribly in some isolated starts, but comes back on fire. I think the good starts are a better representative of what Sale is. When he is dealing, Sale is virtually unhittable. In his last start against the mighty Detroit Tigers, Sale gave up no runs on four hits in 7.2 innings pitched. Shields is good on the road, but Sale shines at home, posting a 2.79 ERA over 116 innings pitched in Chicago.
If you have no money on this game, then you probably won`t care about the end result in this one. But if you`ve read this far, then I imagine you`re looking to make an investment on this game. I like both pitchers to duel one another with it staying a low scoring outing for both clubs. I`ll be on the under for my final play of the MLB regular season.
