For three days, the San Diego Padres are out east in Atlanta at Truist Park. This is the opening of a lengthy road trip for the Padres. They have a nine-game road trip across three series.

The Padres stay on the east coast following this weekend series in Atlanta. They’ll fly to Philadelphia for a three-game series against the Phillies.
San Diego is coming off a 7-5 loss to the Cubs on Wednesday. They dropped two of three games at home against the Cubs, as the Padres regressed to a record of 20-12.
Despite the two losses against the Cubs, the Padres are happy where they are right now. They’re a game behind the LA Dodgers in the NL West and will remain a threat for the rest of the season.
Last season it was a duel between the Giants and Dodgers. This season it could be the Padres, who were expected to be much more competitive last year. Getting a healthy and productive Fernando Tatis Jr. back in the lineup is key.
The Braves have a win in three of their last four games and a split in a two-game interleague series against the Boston Red Sox. They are on the heels of a 5-3 win over the Red Sox two days back.
This should be a good pitching matchup with Yu Darvish and Max Fried on the bump at Truist Park. Head below for our free Padres vs. Braves prediction on May 13, 2022.

Padres vs. Braves Prediction:
Yu Darvish goes into Atlanta with some confidence after bouncing back well after allowing 8 hits and 9 earned runs to the San Francisco Giants on April 12. He has been sharp in four games since then.
That start for Darvish against the Giants was an outlier for him. He’s conceded 2 or fewer runs in four of six games and 3 or fewer in five of six attempts. The bad start against the Giants was his only troublespot.
Darvish is going into Truist Park with an ERA of 4.05 and a 1.08 WHIP. Remove the outlier, and Darvish would have much better numbers.
Since allowing 9 earned runs in 1.2 innings to the Giants, Darvish conceded 4 earned runs in 18.2 innings of work. That’s how you bounce back after a sloppy performance.

- UNDER is 15-7-3 in their previous 25 games versus a right-handed starter
Max Fried counters for the Braves and provides a good lift on the mound. Fried has been in good form with an ERA of 2.68 and a 0.84 WHIP.
The lefty has allowed 2 or fewer runs in five straight starts after giving up 8 hits, and 5 earned runs in his 2022 debut. Fried has a 2.08 ERA and 0.69 WHIP in two starts this month.
The Padres haven’t been hitting as well as they hoped at this point in the season. They’re hitting .227 for 21st in the major leagues. More than 0.88 home runs per game was expected.
The Padres have done little against Fried in his career. There is only one batter in the Padres lineup hitting .300 versus Fried.
This should be a matchup decided by Darvish and Fried. Both bullpens have been in decent form with a 4.10 ERA and 3.29 ERA as well. I’d look at the UNDER at a value price in Atlanta.
