The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies are at Coors Field for the first of three matchups in Denver. The Rockies are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night. Cleveland got the sweep with a 4-3, 7-5, and 4-2 win in three games.

The Rockies needed to score more runs at Coors Field. That’s not going to get it done. Scoring 5 runs in two games is a good recipe for losing at Coors. They are one of the most reliable offenses in their own ballpark, but it didn’t look like it in that series.
Colorado slips to 27-37 on the season with the loss. Never expected to compete in the NL West, they’re fading well back into the abyss for another season.
The pitching is usually blamed for their struggles, though this isn’t the case in their latest series. At least in two of those three games. Holding a team to 4 runs should be a win at Coors Field.
In any event, I’m still not concerned with their offense scoring runs at Coors. Despite that being an issue in their latest series, they will likely get the bats going again soon.

San Diego is going into Denver off a four-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. They had a multi-run win in each game, with a 12-5 and 19-5 win included in Wrigleyville.
The Padres are 41-24 and have a half-game advantage on the LA Dodgers in the NL West. They recently edged ahead thanks to eight wins in their previous ten attempts.
Rookie MacKenzie Gore is looking for a big bounce-back performance after the worst look of his career last week. Kyle Freeland is scheduled to start for the Rockies. Head below for our free Padres vs. Rockies prediction on June 17, 2022.

Padres vs. Rockies Prediction:
The Padres are red-hot and are going to a launching pad at Coors Field. The weather is humid, with the wind blowing out to left field. This is going to be a tricky game for both pitchers.
It’s never easy pitching at Coors Field, and the wind blowing out will make things much tougher. MacKenzie Gore was rocked for 5 hits and 6 earned runs in 2.1 innings of work.
However, Gore ran into a pothole in that one and is going into Coors Field with an ERA of 2.50 and a 1.19 WHIP. That’s still very strong numbers for a rookie hurler.
This should be another touch matchup for Gore in his first appearance at Coors Field. The Rockies thrive against lefties and this could be one of those games.
The Rockies are hitting a potent .280 with a .287 batting average at home versus left-handed pitching. They’ve scored an impressive 7.11 runs per 9 innings against lefties.
The offense has been quiet for the Rockies lately, but they should have a good chance of getting the bats going tonight. They’ll need it with the hot Padres’ offense coming to town.

Freeland is entering this start at home with a 4.39 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. He’s preferred going on the road trips, where Freeland has been in better shape with an ERA of 3.00 and a 1.26 WHIP.
He’s posted a 5.35 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 40.1 innings of work at Coors Field. His team is 29th in the majors with 5.59 runs against per 9 innings.
Opponents are hitting .275 versus the Rockies this season. The bullpen is third-worst in the major leagues with a 4.77 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.
The ball should be flying at Coors Field this evening. Expect plenty of runs on the board. This is a high total, but it looks justified in a high-scoring final.
