Tampa Bay Rays vs. Seattle Mariners Pick – MLB May 7, 2022

The Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners clash for the third time in three days after a 4-3 and 8-7 win for the Rays. Tampa won thrillingly last night at T-Mobile Park.

The Mariners were unable to hold the lead in the 9th inning, as the Rays responded with 3 runs after the Mariners scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th frame.

Paul Sewald allowed 3 hits and 3 runs in just 1 inning of work to sink the Mariners. Ryan Thompson of the Rays was saved by the offense after he allowed 4 hits and 3 runs in 0.1 innings.

It was a gutsy win for the Rays, which was their 16th of the season to advance to 16-10 on the season. They have it tough in the AL East with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees, but the Rays didn’t feel much respect early last year.

Tampa exceeded their early season projects and won the AL East with a record of 100-62.

The Rays cleared the Red Sox and Yankees by eight games, but should find it tougher in 2022. They enter tonight two games behind the New York Yankees for the lead in the division. Toronto remains a threat as well.

Drew Rasmussen and Marco Gonzales are scheduled to receive the starting nods at T-Mobile Park in the third game of this series in Seattle. Head below for our free Rays vs. Mariners prediction on May 7, 2022.

Rays vs. Mariners Prediction:

The Rays’ pitching staff is going to make the AL East difficult on their opponents. They have been in good form, and have held teams to a .213 batting average for the fifth-best mark in the major leagues.

Tampa pitching has really shined on the road, where as a team they have a collective ERA of 2.89 with offenses hitting just .176 against the Rays.

Drew Rasmussen has contributed to the success that the Rays are having on the mound this season. The 26-year-old had a breakout campaign in 20 appearances last season and is now ready to do it on a full-time basis.

Rasmussen posted an ERA of 2.44 and a 0.97 WHIP in ten starts and ten apperarences as a reliever out of the bullpen.

He is off to a rock solid start on the hill this season as well. Rasmussen is becoming a focal point of the Rays’ rotation.

Through five attempts, he’s recorded an ERA of 3.13 and a 0.87 WHIP in 2022. After giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs in his second start, Rasmussen is hot with a ERA of 1.93 and a 0.79 WHIP.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 8-2
  • 7-0 overall in their previous seven games on the road
  • 7-0 overall in their previous seven games versus the AL West
  • 5-1 overall in the third game of a series
  • 4-0 overall in their previous four games versus a left-handed starter
  • 48-18 overall in their previous 66 games versus a team with a losing record

  • Record (Last 10): 1-9
  • 0-5 overall in their previous five games
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games as an underdog
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games versus the AL East
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games versus a right-handed starter
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games versus the Rays

Marco Gonzales is off to an adequate start in 2022. He’s doing more Gonzales things, as he enters Saturday night with an ERA of 4.05 and a 1.55 WHIP. That sounds about right for the eight-year veteran.

Gonzales has posted an ERA of 4.91 and a 1.73 WHIP. Batters have notched a .345 OBP against him in his previous 11 innings on the bump.

The Mariners are ice cold with losses in nine of their last ten attempts. They are better than they’ve shown recently to fall to 12-14 on the season.

However, I’m not confident in them turning it around with a confident Rasmussen on the bump. Look at the Rays to ride the hot arm of Rasmussen to a win on Saturday night.
