The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels open a three-game series in Anaheim at Angel Stadium. The Rangers are in Anaheim following back-to-back losses to the Houston Astros.

Texas earned a 3-0 win on Friday night, but the offense didn’t offer much to get excited about. They scored just 7 runs through four games, with 3 runs their biggest output in the win. They are coming off a 5-2 loss at Minute Maid Park for their third loss in Houston.
Taylor Hearn wasn’t in sharp form on Sunday afternoon. He gave up 6 hits and 4 earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. As was the case with the rest of the series, Hearn and the pitching staff didn’t get mcuh run support.
Problems with the offense weren’t what the Rangers had in mind when they signed Marcus Semien and Corey Seager. They were two of the bigger bats available in free agency, and the Rangers scored both.
Semien, in particular, has been a major disappointment. If he can get going at the plate, the rest of the bats should follow for the Rangers. With Semien hitting just .182 with no home runs, that will not work.
The Rangers are paying Semien a lot of money for his services. We’ll have to see if he comes alive, but there are shades of Chris Davis at the moment.
The Angels are on the heels of back-to-back wins over the Oakland Athletics, 5-3 and 4-1. Following a 4-2 loss in the series opener, the Angels responded nicely.
One perk of not having a game: more time to watch this all day.

Rangers vs. Angels Prediction:
Dane Dunning was involved in the trade for Lance Lynn with the Chicago White Sox. The Rangers acknowledged that they were in rebuilding mode and had to shed some salary before Lynn left in free agency.
Whether it was a good move for Dunning is yet to be decided, but trading an aging arm for a younger one with a potentially bright future wasn’t a bad deal. Dunning posted an ERA of 4.51 and a 1.44 WHIP in his second career season and first with the Rangers.
After appearing in seven games with the White Sox in 2020, Dunning was shipped out after a 3.97 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Will this deal come back to hurt the White Sox down the road?
Dunning is off to an improved start, as he carries an ERA of 3.92 and a 1.21 WHIP. This is an important season for Dunning, as he looks to hold strong in a career that could go in either direction right now.
He was roughed up two starts back for 6 hits and 5 earned runs through 5.2 innings against the Boston Red Sox. Dunning responded with 6 innings against the Angels, allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs, both home runs in Arlington last week.
Dunning has an ERA of 4.20 and a 1.40 WHIP in three starts on the road. He’s had issues with the Angels despite a decent performance in his last start. The Angels are hitting .316 with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs in 60 at-bats.

Noah Syndergaard is back home at Angel Stadium where he feels most comfortable. Syndergaard is going into this one with an ERA of 3.60 and a 1.23 WHIP.
Syndergaard is on the heels of his worst performance of the season. Through 0.2 innings, he allowed 4 hits and 4 earned runs to skew his ERA from a 2.45 to 3.60.
At home this season, Syndergaard has been in his best form with an ERA of 1.65 and a 1.04 WHIP. Despite the poor attempt versus the Rangers, he can bounce back tonight.
After getting swept by the Rangers in their last series at Globe Life Field, look for the Angels to get back at Texas with a win in the series opener at Angel Stadium.
