Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Pick – MLB April 20, 2022

The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners opened a three-game series at T-Mobile Park last night. It went as expected, with the Mariners pulled away for a 6-2 win.

They struck early with 4 runs through the first two innings and didn’t allow a comeback bid from the Rangers. Robbie Ray allowed 4 hits and 2 earned runs across 6 innings.

It was a big night for Eduardo Suarez, as he went deep for 3 RBIs to lead the Mariners in scoring. Marcus Siemian was the only contributor for the Rangers.

This has been a disappointing start for the Rangers out of the gate this season. The organization opened up the wallet to sign Siemian and Corey Seager.

Their landing spots were much rumored in the offseason, with both Semien and Seager going to the same place in Seattle. This hasn’t gone as planned so far at 2-8 through the first ten games of the season.

They are hemorrhaging runs so far, so it might have been in their best interest to focus on pitching instead of signing both Semien and Seager. One with a reliable arm probably puts the Mariners in a better spot.

The offense is going to score runs this season, but it means little if their pitching staff doesn’t put good work together.

The Mariners are off to a 6-5 start this season and rebounding after a slow push out of the gate. They have a win in four of their last five attempts, including two of three wins over the Astros.

Logan Gilbert will look to stay hot on the bump for the Mariners, while Dane Dunning seeks to get into good form. Head below for our free Rangers vs. Mariners prediction on April 20, 2022.

Rangers vs. Mariners Prediction:

There haven’t been many positives for the Mariners’ pitching staff this season. This goes for the starters and bullpen. Overall, the Rangers have a team ERA of 6.24. They’ve posted an ERA of 7.09 going into tonight on the road.

The bullpen is dead last in the major leagues with a 5.68 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through ten games. Dane Dunning will do his best to right the ship and pitch better tonight. Dunning hasn’t been in great shape to open the season.

Dunning is entering T-Mobile Park with an ERA of 5.19 and a 1.73 WHIP. Opponents have recorded a .390 OBP versus Dunning.

He didn’t last too long on the bump in his most recent attempt. Dunning allowed 6 hits, 2 walks, and 2 earned runs against the Angels last week. The offense came to help Dunning in a 10-5 win, but he didn’t play a role in the victory.

Seattle should have the upper hand at home at the dish over Dunning tonight. The Mariners haven’t seen much of Dunning, but had a lot of success in 15 at-bats. They are hitting .433 with a .467 OBP versus the 27-year-old.

Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Trends:

  • Record (Last 10): 2-8
  • 16-52 overall in their previous 68 games on the road
  • 4-17 overall in their previous 21 games on a Wednesday
  • 16-46 overall in their previous 60 games on the road versus a right-handed starter
  • 13-40 overall in their previous 53 games versus a team with a winning record
  • 2-17 overall in their previous 19 games at Seattle

  • Record (Last 10): 5-5
  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games versus the Rangers
  • 17-2 overall in their previous 19 games versus the Rangers at home
  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games versus a right-handed pitcher
  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten games at home
  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games on a Wednesday

Logan Gilbert is off to a fast start this season. The 24-year-old righty is in his second season in the major leagues. He posted an ERA of 4.68 through 24 games as a rookie.

His rookie campaign wasn’t anything special, but he looked special at times. The promise was there for a bright future and the next quality young pitcher to come through Seattle.

Gilbert allowed 7 hits and 1 earned run across his first 10 innings this season. This was against two decent offenses in the Twins and White Sox.

Gilbert lasted 5 innings with no earned runs against the White Sox in his latest start. He gave up 4 hits in a 5-1 win for the Mariners in Chicago.

Look for Gilbert to show up well with another competent performance. Gilbert posted an ERA of 0.90 and a .0.80 WHIP in his first two starts of 2022. With Dunning and Texas’ pitching staff, he should expect nice run support.

I’m backing the Mariners to win to take this series and head into tomorrow looking for a sweep.
