We took a day off yesterday, but hopefully the winning ways and hot streak remain intact this evening. We’ve notched five winners in our last six picks, including two pretty sizable underdogs. Tonight the final series of the first half of the season kickoff, and it will be interesting to see what teams lean through the tape and if anyone can make up some ground in their division races.
The Pirates and Cardinals close out the first half of the season in grand fashion as arguably the two best teams in the National League square off. The Pirates have been amazing over the past few months but haven’t been able to close the gap on the redbirds until this past week. They will have their chance to all but erase a 4 ½ game deficit… or dig the hole nearly inescapably deep. It will be interesting to see what unfolds tonight and this weekend.
The Pirates and Cards are the biggest and most impactful matchup, but don’t sleep on the Tigers and Twins important matchup to stay/edge ahead in the AL Wildcard race as well as keep some heat on the Royals. And speaking of the Royals, they have a big set with Tampa Bay who is aiming to keep their surprising contention in the AL East on track.
It’s gonna be a nice weekend of MLB action, so let’s see if we can close out the first half of the year on fire.

Today’s Free Pick:
Detroit Tigers -130 at Minnesota Twins +120 (Total: 7)
David Price vs. Mike Pelphrey
Anytime I can get David Price at a reasonable price, no pun intended, I am interested. Tonight has my curiosity piqued. Minus 130 is pretty reasonable price tag for an 8-2 pitcher with an ERA under three (2.52 ERA), especially pitching in the American League.
Price is coming off a rough outing, one in which he allowed more than three earned runs for the first time this season. I can’t imagine him being flat two times in a row, so the Twins might pay for his off-day tonight.
Meanwhile, Mike Pelphrey has been good, but by no means great. It’s asking a lot to slow down the Tigers lineup. He gave up five runs in less than five innings pitched in his last outing against Detroit and his last five starts overall have been rough. Pelphrey is 0-3 with a 8.51 ERA. Ugly.
The price is perfect for Price and the Tigers. I’ll take them happily at -130.
