Twins vs. Red Sox MLB Pick – June 26th

The Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox start the last week in June out at Fenway Park. Can you believe that we’re a week away from July already? The All-Star Game is right around the corner, with the postseason here soon enough. There isn’t much action this Monday, with a small card to get the week started.

There are some notable teams on the diamond tonight, though. The Red Sox, Yankees, Nationals and Indians are all scheduled to play on Monday. The Red Sox will take on the Twins, who are trying to keep their heads above water. It almost feels like it’s a matter of time before they regress and let the Indians take a commanding lead in the AL Central.

The Twins showed some grit yesterday, winning a 4-0 decision to snatch the divisional lead right back by 0.5 games. In fact, the Twins initiated a sweep of the Indians this weekend to show some push back. It’s a nice show of confidence for the Twins, who for a minute there, looked like they were going to collapse and give up a sizable lead to the Indians. However, by the end of the weekend, the Twins have their lead back, but let’s see what they do with it.

The Red Sox have lost two in a row, but they’re benefiting greatly from the downswing of the Yankees. If the Yanks didn’t go on such a cruddy run they’d be in control right now, but as it is, the Yankees and Red Sox are tied in the AL East. After a loss yesterday against the Angels, their second in a row, the Red Sox are 41-35.

No, the Red Sox aren’t tied for 1st in the division because of their own play, rather the Yankees decided to throw away much of what they accomplished from the last two months. Nevertheless, the Yankees would have been quite content if they were told they’d be tied at this point in the season. The Red Sox will send out their ace, Chris Sale, this evening. The Twins will counter with the surprise performing Jose Berrios. Go below for our free Twins vs. Red Sox pick.

Minnesota Twins vs. Boston Red Sox Pick

Jose Berrios (7-1, 2.67 ERA) vs. Chris Sale (9-3, 2.85 ERA)

Berrios has been a pleasant surprise for the Twins this season. I think they were expecting him to turn a corner, but not this quickly and successfully. The Twins gave him some work a year ago as a rookie and he got plastered for a 8.02 ERA in fourteen starts. He must have been working on his game closely this offseason because he’s come back looking like a major league pitcher. Berrios has a record of 7-1, including a 2.67 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. In his last two starts, he’s allowed just 9 hits in total, along with only 2 walks.

Sale, on the other hand, has been a great addition to the Red Sox pitching staff. They are certainly lucky that he decided to come and play for the Red Sox. They would not be tied for 1st place otherwise. Sale has predictably been rock solid in 2017, as he traverses the season with an ERA of 2.85 and 0.90 WHIP. In his last three outings, Sale has posted an ERA of 2.70 and 0.81 WHIP. The Twins have now gone UNDER in eight of their last ten games. As a team, they allowed just 2 runs against the Indians in three games over this past weekend. I think the total should be an 8 instead of 8.5 here. We like the UNDER for our free MLB betting pick on Monday.

PICK: UNDER 8.5 (-115)
