The Washington Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers open a three-game series at American Family Field on Friday night. The Nationals are coming off five losses in seven games.
They avoided a sweep with a 5-4 victory on Wednesday over the Marlins. Washington wasn’t close in their previous three outings before the win, with an 8-0, 8-2, and 5-1 loss.

The Nationals are a 13-26 team and 12.5 games behind the New York Mets. The Nationals expected this after a brunt of their talent left the team to get paid in other organizations after winning the World Series.
Washington isn’t interested in throwing money around like the Dodgers, so their regression was easy to note. They may not be as competitive now, but they still have that 2019 World Series title over the Houston Astros.
Did you know that the Nationals still have Stephen Strasburg, though? If your first guess is that he’s on the injured list, you win. Shocking. Strasburg had the talent to be the next Clayton Kershaw, but he isn’t as durable.
The Brewers are feeling good atop the NL Central with a record of 24-14. They have a 1.5-game advantage on the St. Louis Cardinals following three wins in their previous four attempts.

Nationals vs. Brewers Prediction:
Stephen Strasburg wouldn’t fix all of the Nationals’ problems, but this rotation would be in better form. The pitching staff needs help badly, as they rate as one of the worst units in the major leagues.
The Nationals are 29th in the majors leagues, with opponents hitting .263 versus their pitching. They’ve allowed 5.35 runs per 9 innings for 27th in the major leagues.
As a team, the Nationals are 28th in the major leagues with an ERA of 4.93 and a 5.29 on the road. Strasburg would help, though depth is the most notable issue for the Nationals this season.
Fedde is going into tonight with an ERA of 4.24 and a 1.50 WHIP through 34 innings of work. He’s coming off a start where the offense provided him with great run support.
He allowed 5 hits and 3 earned runs in 4 innings against the ‘Stros, but the Nats had a rare outpouring of offensive support with 13 runs in a 13-6 win.

The Nats don’t have many power bats in their lineup, which has shown this season. They are connecting for just 0.68 home runs per game. That equates to 28th in the major leagues.
At American Family Field, the Brewers have hit an impressive 1.7 home runs per game in 2022. They are scoring 5.79 runs per 9 innings in Milwaukee as opposed to 4.85 runs scored overall.
The pitching staff is tremendous for the Brewers at home as well. They posted an ERA of 2.61 and a 1.01 WHIP.
Teams are hitting just .192 against the Brewers at American Family Field. Eric Lauer has been lights out at home as well.
Lauer goes into tonight with an ERA of 2.60 and a 0.98 WHIP, with a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in Milwaukee this season. I’m siding with the Brewers on the runline at even money.
