The Washington Nationals are in New York tonight for game two of a three-game series against the Mets. The Mets took game one last night 7-6, after falling behind 6-1 early against a lineup of mostly reserves for the Nationals, and storming back to win the game, powered by two homers from Travis d’Arnaud. Tonight, should be a feel-good story for this garbage can fire of a Mets team as Noah Syndergaard (1-2 3.29 ERA) will be taking the mound for the first time since April after missing most of the season with an injury. However, this is just a ploy to sell tickets at this point as Thor is expected to only pitch the first inning. After Syndergaard’s brief cameo the game will be turned over to Matt Harvey (5-6 6.59 ERA) in the second inning. The Nationals will send a red-hot Steven Strasburg (14-4 2.60 ERA) to counter against this bad Mets lineup.
Today’s MLB Pick:
Washington Nationals (92-61) at New York Mets (66-87)
Matt Harvey (5-6 6.59 ERA) vs. Steven Strasburg (14-4 2.60 ERA)
th when he went five shutout innings against the Braves, in a game the Mets lost.
The Mets losing with Harvey on the mound has been a regular occurrence as they have lost 11 out of his 17 starts this season. In his last 13 starts, he has given up 5 earned runs or more in six of them. The guy isn’t just losing, he is getting pounded. I for one am a Matt Harvey fan, I really do hope he gets his act back together and finds what has gone missing in his career. He was a fun superstar to watch during his, albeit very brief, run to stardom. But until he figures things out you can’t help but bet against him every time he takes the mound.
I know the Nationals will likely not start a full lineup in this one. However, with almost the entire lineup getting the day off yesterday in game one, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a couple of the everyday guys on the field today. But in the end, it doesn’t really matter who is hitting for the Nationals because Matt Harvey is pitching for the Mets. Knowing the Mets history, Syndergaard will come out and end up getting hurt somehow to pay back the karma for such an idiotic move and get blasted before he does. The Matt Harvey will then come in and finish off the beating as he just can’t get people out at the big-league level at this point.
I would like the Nationals in this one even without Steven Strasburg on the mound. If you haven’t noticed yet, I am not a fan of the Mets publicity stunt today and see it backfiring in a big way. The fact that we have a prime Strasburg in the midst of the best stretch of his career is just the cherry on top. Give me the Nationals on the run line today in New York and cross your fingers that Thor doesn’t come off the field limping if you are a Mets fan.
Today’s MLB Pick: Nationals -1.5 runs at -110
