Yankees Rangers ALCS Game 1 Picks, Prediction and Odds

The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers will square off tonight in Texas in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series. Game time is set for 8:00 PM EST. The Yankees swept the Minnesota Twins in three games in their ALDS series, while the Rangers went the distance with the Rays, beating them on the road in game five. The Rangers advancing to the ALCS marks the franchises first playoff series win. This Yankees/Rangers match up will no doubt be an exciting one, with both teams full of great pitchers and powerful hitters. Like expected, the Yankees come into the series as ALCS favorites paying -175 on the series, while the Rangers are at +155 odds.

The Yankees send their ace lefty CC Sabathia to the mound tonight.  Sabathia went 22-7 on the year, with a 3.21 ERA.  In his ALDS start in Minnesota Sabathia threw for 6 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 earned runs in a game that the Yankees won 6-4.

The Texas Rangers will look to their lefty CJ Wilson to open up the ALCS series. Wilson went 16-9 on the year with a 3.25 ERA, and when he started a game the Rangers were 25-9 as a team.  Wilson pitched on the road in Tampa Bay in their ALDS series, where he allowed only 2 hits in 6.1 innings work, which resulted in no runs against in a 6-0 victory.

Yankees vs Rangers ALCS Game 1 Picks and Predictions:

Game Total Pick (Top Play Prediction): I think the best play in tonight’s ALCS Game 1 has to be the UNDER 8 runs at plus money.  Two leftys will be on the mound tonight, and looking back on the Yankees performances vs leftys over the last month you can see that they have struggled.  Mix that in with CJ Wilson who threw 6 and a third innings of two hits and no run ball where he struckout 7 and walked only 2, and I don’t see the Yankees putting up big offensive numbers here tonight.  Sabathia has been known for his consistent performances at Yankee Stadium, but a look at his last four road starts will show he is just fine on the road.  CC is 3-0 in his last four road starts, where he has only given up 7 earned runs against.  Tonight look for a low scoring game.

Top Play Prediction = UNDER 8 Runs

Money Line Prediction: It’s hard to go against this Yankees team who has looked so dominant in these 2010 playoffs, not to mention last years postseason run, but I am doing just that in Game 1 of the ALCS.  I like the value on the Rangers here at home tonight in what I think will be a one run tight low scoring game.  CJ Wilson looked great in his post season debut, and if he can put on a similar game plan I think the Rangers have a real good shot at taking game one here in Texas. I give the edge to the Yankees in the series, but tonight I think there is a lot of value on the Rangers at +130 on the money line, or even at -127 on the run line (+1.5).

Money Line Prediction = RANGERS to win (+130)
