Yankees Twins Odds and Predictions ALDS Game 1

The third match up of game day for the opening of the MLB playoffs, has New York coming to Target Field to take on the Minnesota Twins. The Yankees are set to take the first pitch at 8:37pm ET, being Wednesday October 4th, 2010. Both teams locking up playoff berths, rested and played cautiously going a combined 5-15 to finish out the 2010 regular season. Yet another power lefty-ace duel as CC Sabathia takes on Francisco Liriano stepping up to the bump for the Twins.

The New York Yankees have their unquestioned leader and staff ace with the ball in his hands, Sabathia did well in his last start going into the ninth and giving up only one run. CC has owned most Minnesota hitters with the exception of Alexei Casilla who is hitting at a .692 clip in 13 at bats. Jim Thome has only gone 4 for 27, but all have been home runs. The Twins didn’t get a chance against the game one starter this season, but their notable players have had their chances with a good number of at bats.

With Minnesota now ruling out Justin Morneau for any appearances in this 2010 post-season. The Twins will know what and how they need to play to have a chance. But may be in tough facing Sabathia in game one. But through calculated defense and key offensive fundamentals they will continue to score, though it may not be able to overcome a Yankees team that smartly put AJ Burnett in the pen for this series. As the ‘Twinkies’ can hit the long ball this year with Jim Thome, Kubel and Young consistently.

Yankees vs Twins ALDS Prediction for Game 1:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – You can really see why the Yanks are starting Andy Pettite in game two with the numbers barring out the way that they do. The Yankees took 2 of 3 in both series this year. When Nick Blackburn pitches is when I will have to take a serious look at Minnesota he has soundly beaten the Yankees and offered the Twins their only two wins all year against the Bronx Bombers, New York or in Minnesota. With the Yankees lineup they just need to be consistent and have good at bats and the Pitcher will always get into trouble. I have seen all year how important the role of Nick Swisher has been, in the two hole he offers a huge offering with effort and a general impact on the players. PREDICTION = YANKEES (-145)

Game Total Prediction – Over 7.5 runs scored has been the norm for these two squads tilts. But the Twins have not had to face CC Sabathia. This total is the highest of any opening game in this years playoffs. Even Burnett and Duensing dueled for a 1-0 game in the first of a doubleheader this year. All other games should go over, but this one I am banking on the pitching. Liriano is the only question mark I can see is he did lose a 7-1 contest to Pettite earlier in the year. PREDICTION = UNDER 7.5
