Yankees vs. Mariners Pick MLB – June 7th

I bounced out of a mini skid yesterday by cashing the Athletics in extra innings. Wednesday was my worst day in quite a while, so it was nice to get back on the right track heading into the weekend. Not only my worst day, but I had the absolute worst beat of my life. Today’s wager looks at a game that features one pitcher that is on the up, and another that, well, has apparently come back from the dead.

Free MLB Pick:

New York Yankees -178 at Seattle Mariners +163 (Total: 7.5)

Hiroki Kuroda (6-4, 2.59 ERA) vs. Jeremy Bonderman (0-1, 13.50 ERA)

When I took an initial look at the card for today, I had to do a double take when I saw the name Bonderman. As a Tigers’ fan, I know all of the inner workings of Jeremy Bonderman. I wanted him to retire four years ago after the best pitch he offered was a meatball down the middle of the plate. He is a pitcher that had a ton of potential, but suffered from a shoulder injury for the later part of his career. 2010 was the last time he was a member of a rotation, pitching poorly with a 5.53 ERA.

Bonderman already has one start to his credit this season, where he got bombed against the Minnesota Twins. The Twins were having their way with Bonderman, scoring 7 runs and banging home 3 homeruns in a 10-0 route. This will be his first start at home. However, it isn’t exactly a nice welcome home celebration, as he will be left with the chore of taming the Yankees’ bats, which are beginning to heat up. After getting dismantled by the Red Sox over the weekend, the Yankees have pulled off four straight victories against the Cleveland Indians, and last night against the Mariners. Since Teixeira has shaken off a little bit of rust, the Yankees have been a much more complete team.

The Yankees will counter Bonderman with Hiroki Kuroda. Kuroda is arguably the Yankees best pitcher after Sabathia. It may not be that long before Kuroda actually unseats Sabathia and is deemed the best hurler in the Bronx. He brings an excellent ERA of 2.59 to Seattle tonight, but has struggled a little in two of his last three games. However, those two games were against the Red Sox, that kind of power won’t be in the Mariners lineup tonight.

I line opened around -152 and is the way up to -178. I nabbed the (-1) at -123 and that is what I will be playing tonight. I know some of you do not have the option to play alternate lines as such, so my official play is on the run line at (-1.5). I feel even more confident in this play after the massive price change. Kuroda should dice the Mariners up, with the Yankees sending Bonderman back down to the minors. Speaking of which, Bonderman wasn’t all that special in the minors either, in which he had a 4.50 ERA and 2-4 record. Give me the Yanks and Kuroda.
