Yankees vs Rangers Odds, Picks and Predictions ALCS Game 2

Texas Rangers are battered but ready for redemption and hoping to finish this one the right way. Game two of the American Leagues Championship Series to get started at 4:00 PM ET, October 16, Saturday at the appropriately named, Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The New York Yankees showed that once the starting pitcher falters and the opposition is forced to go to the bullpen, that they will eat them alive and take hold of the game. Spraying hits throughout the park last night. The Texas Rangers are in tough after almost pulling off a comfortable win against CC Sabathia. Yankees smartly counter with Phil Hughes to face Colby Lewis.

The Yankees took only their second win at Texas in six tries this year, with a 6-5 comeback win in game one. Phil Hughes doesn’t have an adequate history against Texas or its hitters to give a good indication how this one will go. But has faired well in the small sample taking out the pair of sluggers with a combined 0-14 mark against Michael Young and Vladimir Guerrero.

The biggest advantage in this one for Starting Pitcher Colby Lewis and the Texas Rangers is that the Yankees haven’t faced him in 2010. New York usually likes to take their time in facing newer hurlers and get to know their tendencies, playoffs may change that, a little. Though only facing Shortstop Derek Jeter five times in his career, he has homered 2 times, with three hits. Even if Lewis is un-hittable, yesterday the lefty CJ Wilson seemed to keep the Yanks lineup at bay going seven strong. Leaving it in the shaky hands of a hittable bullpen.

Yankees vs Rangers ALCS Prediction for Game 2:

Moneyline Prediction (TOP PLAY) — Phil Hughes is the better Pitcher, he should go deep and stay cool and calculated, but may get out of the game earlier as bench boss Joe Girardi continues to have confidence in his pen. This was the underlying issue in game one, the Yankees stopped the bleeding after ‘Carbs and Calories’ departed and the Texas relievers did not and two came in succession giving up hits on their first pitches and departing thereafter. The bullpen has to be rattled for the Texas Rangers and if the light-hitting Derek Jeter has good home run numbers against you, that may be an indicator as he powered a solid double, late in last nights game over the head of Center-Fielder Josh Hamilton.

Game Total Prediction – Both of these starting pitchers left with shutouts in their previous playoff performances. Hughes however went seven innings versus Lewis’ five. This game should take shape late or at least halfway through not going any higher than 5-4. I am looking for a complete and similar performance for both in this one, compared to their previous starts. The total seems so high after seeing today’s other game go as low as six. But scoring 11 previously, I can see it, as those who don’t look closely will think a Hughes/Lewis game is sure to go over. But they have yet to go over with their pitching performances in the playoffs. I would be inclined to go over with this one if Andy Pettite had been given the nod, like in the opening series against the Minnesota Twins.
