If you’re a UFC fan then chances are you’ve been waiting for UFC 121 since the day the match-ups were released. For those of you that don’t already know the UFC 121 event will be taking place at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California. The pay-per-view event will begin at 10PM, but Spike TV will be airing a bit of the undercard action at 9PM. There are some huge fights tonight, but none bigger then the Heavyweight Division Championship bout between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez. Below I have listed the money line odds on the biggest UFC 121 fights, and my predictions on who to bet on tonight!
UFC 121: Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Odds & Predictions
Money Line Odds:
(Not sure how to read betting odds? Check out our Sports Betting Odds Explained article to learn how.)
Main Event Prediction:
Brock Lesnar (5-1) will be putting his UFC Heavyweight Championship on the line against Cain Velasquez (8-0) in the Main Event at UFC 121 tomorrow night. There are fans backing both fighters at this point, but I expect the public to be on Lesnar by the time the fight rolls around. I’ve got my money on the smaller Velasquez in this fight, as I think he’s going to be able to control the fight unlike other opponents Brock has faced. As long as Velasquez doesn’t allow Brock to gain position on the ground I think that the bout will last the distance with Cain earning a decision victory thanks to his precise striking skills and excellent defensive skills.
I can’t see Lesnar getting knocked out or submitting against Cain although that could be a possibility. Lesnar is easily the more physically imposing fighter in this bout, but against someone with the build of Velasquez this might not be as big of an advantage as it usually is. Cain has tons of experience wrestling and should have no problem controlling the ground game so that he ensures he doesn’t get caught in a bad situation. If he can avoid the big punches from Lesnar and limits the damage done then I can’t see him losing his shot at taking the title from Brock.

Other UFC 121 Odds and Picks
Martin Kampmann vs. Jake Shields Odds & Predictions
vs. Shields –210
Jake Shields is making his 1st appearance in the UFC after moving over from StrikeForce and he’s the heavy favourite. I expect Jake to win this fight although it may come down to the final bell leaving the decision in the judge’s hands. Kampmann is the better fighter standing up, but Shields has a massive advantage when it comes down to the ground game. I could see Shields winning this fight by submission although if Kampmann can avoid the submission it’ll come down to a close decision by the judge’s I think.
Diego Sanchez vs. Paulo Thiago Odds & Predictions
vs. Thiago –115
Diego Sanchez is a great all-around fighter although he’ll be focusing on the ground game in this fight if he wants to win. Thiago has the advantage standing up in this bout and he has the power to knockout his opponent in any fight. If Diego brings the fight to the ground it isn’t close to being over either, as Thiago has a lethal ground game and can get out of tons of positions. I’ll be taking the small favourite in this bout and I figure it shouldn’t even make it to the judge’s scorecard.
Tito Ortiz vs. Matt Hamill Odds & Predictions
vs. Hamill –190
Tito Ortiz has been struggling in the UFC with countless problems and injuries over the past few years and he hasn’t even won a bout in 4 years now. Matt Hamill in my opinion is an up and coming fighter in the UFC and I think he should control this fight from start to finish and expose Ortiz. There is a lot more pressure on Hamill to succeed in this fight and although that may hurt him in the 1st round I think he’ll loosen up as the fight progresses.
Brendan Schaub vs. Gabriel Gonzaga Odds & Predictions
vs. Gonzaga –150
Brendan Schaub is a recent winner on the hit television series Ultimate Fighter, but he didn’t need to fight through opponents with the capabilities that Gonzaga possesses. I can see Gonzaga earning the victory in this fight although he really needs to watch out for the haymakers from Schaub. Both fighters are going to be swinging freely in this bout and I fully expect a knockout by either fighter although my money is on Gabriel landing his knockout punch on Schaub first.
