UFC on FOX Odds and Picks for Betting

UFC on Fox 1 is scheduled for this Saturday and it’ll mark a new milestone for the UFC. This will be the 1st time that the UFC will be aired live on the FOX channel and I’m sure millions of viewers will tune in to watch the main event. Unfortunately, only the title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos will be aired live on FOX. The rest of the fights can be watched online on Facebook or on the Fox Sports website.

UFC on Fox 1 Main Event Odds & Picks

• Cain Velasquez -160
• Junior Dos Santos +140

Cain Velasquez (9-0) hasn’t lost in his professional career, but this will be the 1st time that he has had to defend his title. He won’t be in for an easy fight either, as Junior Dos Santos (13-1) is one of the most prolific strikers in the sport. Dos Santos has the power to end this fight early, but I don’t think Velasquez will give him a chance. Velasquez was tagged by Kongo a few times and I don’t think Velasquez is going to underestimate Dos Santos’s power.

Velasquez is one of the best wrestlers in MMA and won’t have a problem controlling this fight is he executes. Once he knocks Junior to the mat he should be able to maintain top position while working his ground and pound. I think Velasquez is going to win by TKO, as he should be able to punish Dos Santos on the ground. Dos Santos will take some punishment for a few rounds, but at some point the ground and pound will become too much for Dos Santos to handle and Velasquez will win.

UFC on Fox 1 Main Card Odds & Picks

• Benson Henderson -270
• Clay Guida +230

Benson Henderson (14-2) and Clay Guida (28-11) meet in the co-main event tomorrow night. Henderson is favoured in this fight and I’ll be glad to bet on him at -270 although I wish it was less juice. Henderson and Guida live by their wrestling ability and high octane fighting styles, but Henderson is a better-rounded fighter in my opinion. Look for Henderson to control the pace of this fight and grind out a decision victory. Henderson has a better stand-up game and if he can keep his distance with Guida he should be able to score some points with his boxing.

• Dustin Poirier -310
• Pablo Garza +255

Pablo Garza (11-1) will make his 3rd appearance in the UFC against heavy favourite Dustin Poirier (10-1) who will also be making his 3rd appearance under the UFC promotion. Both fighters are 2-0 in the UFC and this should be a competitive fight. Both times Garza has gotten in the cage he has come out with impressive victories including a huge KO and submission. It’s hard to imagine either fighter dominating this fight and there is some value with Garza due to his finishing abilities. I’m going to go with the live dog in this spot, as I can see Garza finishing this fight without the help of the judges.

• Ricardo Lamas -140
• Cub Swanson +120

Cub Swanson (15-4) will make his UFC debut against Ricardo Lamas (10-2). Lamas has 1 UFC appearance and he won that fight over Matt Grice at UFC Live 4. Recently Lamas has shown plenty of KO power in his recent fights, but he needs to be cautious about Cub while standing up because Swanson has KO power as well. Lamas should be able to control the fight on the ground if he wants and if he’s smart he will. I’ll take the small favourite, as Swanson should be working off some rust from a long layoff.

• DaMarques Johnson -270
• Clay Harvison +230

Clay Harvison (9-3) will fight DaMarques Johnson (12-9) at UFC on Fox 1 tomorrow night. Look for Johnson to work the ground game and pick up a submission victory. Harvison has been submitted multiple times and Johnson shouldn’t have a problem with submitting Harvison. This isn’t a fight to get excited about and I wouldn’t jump at the thought of paying -270 juice. I think Johnson wins this fight, but I recommend being careful with this one because at -270 it’d hurt to lose.
