This weekend, NASCAR’s Cup Series along with Ryan Blaney head to Talladega for the YellaWood 500. This is the second annual trip to one of the sport’s most cherished superspeedways and the 5th race of the 2021 postseason.
Currently, Ryan Blaney sits 5th in the Playoff standings and is in a good position to advance to the third round of the Playoffs.
Blaney has been red hot over the last seven races of the season including the first four Playoff races. Ryan closed out the regular season with victories at Michigan and Daytona, which is the first time that he’s ever won consecutive races in his career.
In the opening round of the Playoffs, Blaney posted a 12.0 average finish with one Top 5 and two Top 10s. Last weekend, in the first race of the second round, Blaney posted a 5th place finish at Las Vegas.
Blaney now heads to Talladega where he’s a proven winner at.
Can the #12 car find victory lane one more time?
Ryan @Blaney has scored six top-five finishes in his last nine races on top of his two wins.

Ryan Blaney Betting Odds
- To Win (+1000)
- Top 3 (+330)
- Top 5 (+140)
- Top 10 (-200)
Depending on which NASCAR betting site you look at, Ryan Blaney is listed as the 4th or 5th highest odds on favorite to win the YellaWood 500 on Sunday, October 2nd.
As you can see, his race-winning odds and Top 3 wager offer big returns on investment. There’s still plenty of value with a Top 5 wager as well. However, I’m going with the Top 10 option due to the nature of the beast that Talladega is.
Blaney’s Experience at Talladega
In 14 career starts at Talladega Superspeedway, Ryan Blaney has two wins, three Top 5s, five Top 10s, and a 17.5 average finish.
Looking at his resume from a long point of view, his numbers aren’t that great. A 21.4% Top 5 rate and a 35.7% Top 10 rate are not confidence boosters.
In the last five Talladega races, Blaney has two wins, two Top 5s, three Top 10s, and four Top 15s. He has a 10.2 average finish over that stretch.
Blaney won this race in 2019 then followed up that victory with a win in the 2020 Geico 500. Unfortunately, he was caught up in the big wreck at the end of the 2020 YellaWood 500.
However, Ryan bounced back this year with a 9th place result in the 2021 Geico 500. That’s his third Top 10 finish in the last four Talladega races.
Take Blaney to Finish in the Top 10
Blaney has won two of the last four races at Talladega including the 2019 YellaWood 500. Additionally, he has a 10.2 average finish over the last five races and three Top 10s in the last four races at this track.
Furthermore, Blaney has a 10.2 average finish over the first four Playoff races in the postseason, 17 Top 10s on the year, and an 11.6 average finish for the 2021 season so far.
Blaney’s numbers scream Top 10 car on Sunday. But, with the big wreck at the end of the race, Ryan has proven that he can avoid it in order to win the race. I wouldn’t be surprised if the #12 car ended up in victory lane.
For this NASCAR prop bet, we’ll play it safe at Talladega by taking Blaney to finish in the Top 10.
