Atlanta Hawks vs. New Orleans Pelicans Pick – NBA October 27, 2021

The Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans are scheduled to have a meeting at Smoothie King Arena on Wednesday night. The Hawks are in New Orleans following a 122-104 win over the Detroit Pistons in Atlanta.

That was easy work for the Hawks as they jumped out early to a 28-18 lead going into the 2nd quarter and didn’t look back. Trae Young led the Hawks in scoring with 32 points and 9 assists. This team is much more than just Young, though.

The Hawks have depth and can get production from any of their starting five. Cam Reddish and Lou Williams off the bench completes a pretty picture for the Hawks. They are off to a 3-1 start with their lone loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That was an uncharacteristically bad performance for the Hawks two games back. However, they were able to bounce back in good form with the win over the Pistons. Before their poor performance versus the Cavs, the Hawks cleared the Mavericks easily, 113-87.

Their win over the Mavericks was a better representation of what the Hawks are capable of doing. The Pelicans are capable of competing, but that’s only going to happen with Zion Williamson on the floor. Williamson is currently absent with no timetable available for a return. They need him back or it’s going to continue to be tough sledding in New Orleans.

The onus is on Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas to carry the load. I shouldn’t leave out Devonte’ Graham who is an underrated guard. However, the Pelicans are missing a guy like Zion to give this team solid depth, and an all-around solid roster.

We’ll see which Hawks team is going to show up tonight in New Orleans. We know how good they can be, but it could be interesting if they take the night off like happened versus the Cavaliers. Head below for our free Hawks vs. Pelicans pick on October 27, 2021.

Hawks vs. Pelicans Prediction:

When the Hawks are feeling it they can play like one of the best teams in the NBA. They often get overlooked for some of the more popular teams in the league, but the Hawks could get to the NBA Finals if the ball bounces their way.

Getting past the powerhouses in the Eastern Conference wouldn’t be easy, but they have the tools to do it, just might need to catch a break somewhere along the way. Trae Young is the face of the franchise, but let’s not forget about guys like John Collins and Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Collins is one of the more underrated forwards in the NBA today. He does a lot of things right and is still an afterthought to most people that watch the NBA. With that in mind, he’s one of the more underrated players in the NBA period, not just forwards.

There was some speculation that he was going to be gone at the deadline last year, but the Hawks kept him around. He’s coming off a productive performance against the Pistons with 22 points and 7 rebounds. His presence without Zion on the floor could prove to be a difference maker tonight.

Atlanta Hawks vs. New Orleans Pelicans Betting Trends:

  • 7-0 ATS in their previous seven games versus the Pelicans
  • 5-0 overall in their previous five games versus the Pelicans
  • 5-0 ATS in their previous five games versus the Pelicans on the road
  • 8-1 ATS in their previous nine games versus the Western Conference
  • UNDER is 8-3 in their previous 11 games on the road

  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 1-7 overall in their previous eight games
  • 0-5 ATS in their previous five games versus the Hawks at home
  • 2-7 overall in their previous nine games versus the Eastern Conference

The Pelicans are missing the cog of their team with no Zion. That goes for both sides of the floor. It’s particularly been a struggle for them offensively.

They have scored just 101.3 points per game and shooting 42.4% from the field. Their 101.3 points per game is 26th in the league. It could be tough to operate against this Atlanta defense that has stepped it up for this season.

The Hawks have been terrific defensively, and while the offense will get the accolades with Young and company, this group has really pulled together to frustrate teams from the field. Opponents are shooting just 39.6% against the Hawks and have scored 97.3 points per game.

Oddsmakers have undervalued the Hawks for a long time now, and I don’t see this line being any different. This looks too short without Zion in the lineup. I would look for the Hawks to win and cover in around a 10-point win in New Orleans tonight.
