It’s been a rough week and yesterday was another twist of the knife. I took my second straight NBA loss by a single point or half point. Added with two straight college losses by a point or half point and it is four losses by a total of three points. Rough run. But alas, overall it has been a great NBA season, so let’s keep on rolling and fight through this rough stretch and get back on the winning trail.
Because a win may just be right around the corner. Just ask the Philadelphia 76’ers. The hapless Sixers won their second game of the year last night in Phoenix 111-104. That’s pretty ugly. Marcus Morris should throw a towel at their coach… oh wait…
Let’s get back on it today and start a fresh new winning streak!

Today’s Free Pick:
Portland Trailblazers at Sacramento Kings -7.5
Perhaps it is two straight losses fading them, but the Kings are definitely now on my radar. They enter with just 12 wins, just like Portland, but man what a different story these two teams are currently. Portland’s wins came mostly in the first two weeks before reality (and now some Damian Lillard health issues) came dragging this team back to the inevitable regression to reality; they aren’t very good.
Meanwhile, Sacramento has been good. They haven’t imploded on themselves as I have joked would happen (and still might – let’s not underestimate the Molotov Cocktail of Boogie, Rondo and Karl). In fact, they have won three straight games including an impressive road win at Indiana and have won seven of their last nine games at home. This team has shown great promise and feels like a team that could sneak into the bottom of the weakened Western Conference playoff tree. Rondo is racking up assists at a league-leading clip and Boogie is probably the best pure bigman in the NBA. It’s weird to say, but the Kings are actually a pretty good team.
Portland is not. And while they won last night without Lillard, it is unfair to expect them to repeat the magic a night later without their far-and-away best player. Let’s also recognize that the win was over Cleveland’s JV squad with all their starters resting (hate that about the modern NBA, but that’s another whinny column for another day). Portland has lost five in a row and 13 of 16 on the road.
Sacramento has been resting since Wednesday. Portland played last night and now has to play a back to back on the road without their best player and leading scorer. No contest. Take the Kings and lay the points with confidence.
