Blazers vs Grizzlies – NBA Pick for March 28th

Portland Trailblazers (46-28) at Memphis Grizzlies (20-54)

The betting line information used for this article was taken from Bovada at 8:30 AM PST on 3-28-18. Some odds may have changed since the time of this writing.

We got pretty unlucky last night when we took the Toronto Raptors at home against the Denver Nuggets. The Raptors used a strong fourth quarter to pull away from Denver and held a 111-101 lead with under a minute left to play.

All we needed was one miss for Denver, and the win and cover were secured. Instead, the last minute ended terribly for us as the Nuggets inexplicably caught fire from deep and buried a couple of three-pointers to steal our cover away in the games last few remaining seconds.

What can you do, sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way late in games, and you lose even though you were on the right side. We will look to get right back to our winning ways tonight as we break down the matchup between the Portland Trailblazers and the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Portland Trailblazers will travel to Memphis Wednesday night to face the Grizzlies. Portland played last night on the road in New Orleans against a solid Pelicans team and came away with the 107-103 victory.

The Blazers will be forced to play on back to back nights on the road, a very tough scenario for any team. For Memphis, the season of tanking continues. The Grizzlies managed to win in their last game but had lost twenty-three out of their previous twenty-four games before that rare win.

The Blazers are -6-point road favorites. The game total over-under is set at 202 points. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM PST from the FedEx Forum.

The Portland Trailblazers have won their last seven games on the road. On his current road trip, they are 2-0, with both of those wins coming against solid, playoff caliber teams. The Blazers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder and the New Orleans Pelicans. Now they get the seemingly easy matchup for the final game of the roadie against a Memphis Grizzlies team hell-bent on losing.

This whole scenario scares me a little bit. It is VERY rare to see a road team as big favorites like this one tonight when they played on the road the night before. Back to backs on the road are just really hard on NBA teams. But for Memphis to win tonight, they would have to win two consecutive games. The last time that happened? January.

I could have kept this article at about one sentence. Memphis stinks, bet the other way. That probably would have been sufficient. But the fact that Portland is in such a tough spot made me take a little bit closer of a look at this game. And, the closer I look, the more I like Portland.

Memphis has struggled to even remain competitive in many games. Just this month they have a 61-point loss to Charlotte, 61 points! To a team that isn’t even going to make the playoffs. They also have a 34-point loss to the Dallas Mavericks! Another team that will be picking high up in the lottery next season.

Those two beatings stick out as they were so bad and came to such awful teams, but the Grizzlies last twenty-five or so games, have been littered with double-digit defeats. They aren’t taking any chances this season, they want to lose and lose now.

So, all that is really up for debate, is will the Blazers cover the six-point number. I think that they will. This Blazers team is playing inspired basketball, and I don’t think they will let the Grizzlies hang around close enough to have to sweat this game tonight.

Portland is just a couple of wins away from locking up the three seed in the Western Conference, and they are too well coached to let a game like this one slip by them. If they were going to lose a game on this road trip, it would have been to the Thunder or the Pelicans, not the Grizzlies.

We have put together an amazing run of NBA wins by betting against these tanking teams, and that is what we are going to do tonight as well. When one side of the game is actively trying to lose, and the other side desperately is trying to win, it makes picking sides pretty easy.

The six points scares me just a little bit, as does the fact that Portland likely won’t be at 100% tonight after a tough game in New Orleans last night. But I will take 80% of the Blazers over 100% of this putrid Grizzlies team any day.

Give me the Portland Trailblazers tonight on the road laying -6 points.
