Blazers vs. Heat Pick – March 19th

The NCAA Tournament may be all the rage, but very quietly we are chugging along with some nice NBA profits while no one is looking.  Last night pushed the mark to 6-1-1 ATS over the last eight picks as the Golden State Warriors throttled the tired Bucks in the Bay for yet another easy win and cover.

Elsewhere in the NBA, the Clippers absolutely destroyed the Cavaliers 108-78, so big win for the Clipps!  Er, yeah, about that… big double-middle finger for the SECOND STRAIGHT ABC game to the NBA.  It is as if the players/coaches are pushing a giant stack of “all-in” chips to the center of the table and DARING Adam Silver to finally blink.  And I think he HAS to at this point, right?  Let’s face it, most of us were watching NCAA Tournament games anyway, but for the NBA die-hards, how can you not be exasperated after the second straight showcase game-turned-farce?

With the loss the Cavaliers now lead the East by a half-game less than the number of middle fingers extended last night (1.5) with a few weeks to (maybe?) play…

We will try to find a game on the NBA slate that both you and the teams involved can care about for today’s free pick…

Today’s NBA Pick:

Portland Trailblazers at Miami Heat -6.5

If this is getting boring, I apologize.  I would also ask why you do not like money…

I’ll take the Heat.  Column over.

OK, fine, here is a little more meat.  The Heat are 23-5 SU in their last 28 games, EASILY the best mark in the NBA, outpacing the Warriors, Spurs, Cavs, Wizards, Celtics and Harlem Globetrotters who squandered a late lead last week to the Generals.  They basically never lose at home any more and are playing a free, fun, explosive style of basketball that has revitalized interest in South Beach and now looks nearly-certain for the Playoffs after competing for the #1 pick in the draft most of the Winter.

The Heat are 5-0 ATS in their last five games, 6-0 ATS in their last six home games and 8-2 ATS in their last ten games.  Portland has also been red-hot lately, covering six of their last ten and going 4-2 ATS in their last six road games, including an easy winner last night in Atlanta.

And therein lies the next problem, LAST NIGHT.  Not only are the Blazers on the road where they are just 14-23 SU this season, they are a road underdog where they are 9-15 ATS this season and they are on SHORT REST on the opposite coast, a nearly-universal recipe for poor results.

Why mess with success?  The Heat are laying a reasonable number at home against a borderline-Lottery team that played last night so are on short rest.

I’ll eat the half dozen and line up once more for the Heat.

Today’s Pick:  Miami Heat -6.5
