The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers have a rivalry matchup at the Staples Center on Tuesday night. This is the final time that the Celtics and Lakers will play at the Staples Center. By the time the Celtics are there next, it’s going to be known as the Crypto.com Arena.
On December 25th, the facility will be known as the Crypto.com Arena. Hopefully for Lakers’ fans, Crypto.com Arena will bring as much success as the Staples Center did. As far as this season goes, they’re hoping that it changes the course of this season.

The Lakers were favorites to win the Western Conference going into the 2021-22 campaign. They are .500 on the season at 12-12 and seventh in the West. That’s not what Lakers’ fans expected to see when they signed Russell Westbrook.
On paper the Lakers look unstoppable, but basketball isn’t played on paper and they aren’t young. The good news is that the Lakers have time to put something together and go on a run in the second-half.
Should it be surprising to see Lebron James and Anthony Davis go off at some point? No, so I’m not counting the Lakers out just yet.
Having said that, the Suns and Warriors are miles ahead of the Lakers at this point. They are stuck in an average cycle like the Denver Nuggets.
The Lakers are coming off a 119-115 loss on December 3 against the Clippers. They had back-to-back wins, including a 117-92 win over the blowout versus the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers have been up and down, like the rest of their season, with a win in three of their last six outings.

The Celtics are on a tough five-game road trip at the moment. They had a 137-130 loss in Utah, and then a 145-117 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday. Their offense suddenly found a hot stroke after going cold.
Boston goes into the Staples Center with a record of 13-11 and 7-7 on the road. Note that Jaylen Brown is going to be absent tonight. Head below for our free Celtics vs. Lakers pick on December 7, 2021.

Celtics vs. Lakers Prediction:
The Celtics didn’t need Jaylen Brown against the Jazz and Trail Blazers, at least offensively. They didn’t come up big defensively in either spot, and I think the Celtics might need it at the Staples Center.
The Jazz were scoring nearly every trip down the floor. Utah scored 137 points in a weak defensive performance.
And then despite beating the Blazers, they still allowed 117 points in Portland. Their offense can’t expect to keep shooting this well.
Boston is 12th in the NBA with 108.9 points scored per game. They are shooting only 44.3% from the field for 21st in the league.
The Celtics are shooting 33.9% from the outside for three, 20th in the NBA. What I’m saying is if the Celtics’ defense isn’t working without Brown in the lineup, they can’t depend on the offense to continue shooting the lights out.
Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers Betting Trends:
- 5-1 ATS in their previous six games as an underdog
- 12-5 ATS in their previous 17 games
- 1-4 ATS in their previous five games after failing to cover the spread
- 1-6 ATS in their previous seven games after scoring more than 125 points
- 0-4 ATS in their previous four games on a Tuesday
- 8-21 ATS in their previous 29 games at the Staples Center
- 2-6 ATS in their previous eight games
- 5-16 ATS in their previous 21 games as a favorite at the Staples Center
- UNDER is 7-2-1 in their previous ten games on the road
- OVER is 7-1 in their previous eight games versus the Celtics
Oddsmakers have been known for overvaluing the Lakers in their assessments. They know that the public was backing the Lakers regardless. However, now it might be time to finally get value on the Lakers.
The Lakers have been scoring, there hasn’t been an issue with putting the ball in the net. They are fourth in the NBA with 111.7 points scored per game and in the top-10 with a field goal percentage of 46.3%.
The defense was aggressive and active last season, but we haven’t seen it from the Lakers in 2021-22. That’s what has to change for the Lakers for them to go on a run.
I have my doubts that the Celtics’ shooters are going to stay hot for three straight games. Before scoring 130 and 145 points, the Celtics averaged just 102.25 points per game in their previous four attempts.
Look for the Celtics to regress to their mean in this one at the Staples Center. Boston shot the lights out in Portland, but can’t see it continuing.
They’re on a tough road trip at the moment, and I could see them coming up slow in this one in Los Angeles. I like the Lakers by a score of 114-105 or 109-100 to win and cover on Tuesday night.
