We got back on track with a winning NBA pick last night, and we will try to make it two in a row tonight, and even throw in a few bonus picks since the slate is so packed with action (and you college football fans might be feeling some pangs of withdrawal today… it’s always so abrupt when bowl season, baseball playoffs, NBA playoffs, March Madness, etc. comes to its conclusion…)
Despite some promising beginnings this season in New York; both the Knicks and Nets, it is starting to appear that aside from the Heat (who got smacked last night by Indiana and Paul George’s 29/11 night) the East is once again the J.V. to the Western Conference’s Varsity. The Clippers, Thunder and Spurs (in that order) have the three best records in the NBA, and it is hard to make a compelling argument for anyone in the East being much better than the Warriors or Grizzlies even…
SO let’s throw in a few games from the “varsity” and the “JV” tonight and find a few more NBA winners.
Milwaukee Bucks at Chicago Bulls -6 (Total: 187.5)
So let me get this straight. The Bucks, a consistently mediocre franchise for most of the past two decades, have been in or near first place most of the season and are contending in the Central, yet FIRED Scott Skiles yesterday? I don’t know the whole story behind the scenes, but it seems like something more must have been going on for Skiles to earn his third NBA head coaching pink slip…
Alas, the Bucks and their interim coaching staff travel to Chicago tonight to try to stem their recent slide and keep up with Bulls and Pacers for the Central crown. They are currently just 2 ½ games back, so a win tonight would be huge. The problem is, they are not very good on the road and are not playing great ball right now. In all fairness though, they have lost four of five, but two of those losses are to OKC and San Antonio, one is AT Indiana, and the other is a two-point road loss to Detroit. It’s not an unreasonable slate of results for a just-above .500 type team.
Chicago, who you would think would have a huge edge, has been fairly pedestrian at home this year. They are just 10-8 in the United Center, and have gone just 2-2 in their last four games including a ten-point loss to Charlotte and their Christmas Day blowout loss to Houston. In fact, the last time Milwaukee went there this season, they also left with a win.
I am not in love with Milwaukee, but teams almost invariably get a short-term little emotional burst the first few games with a new coach. Add in the fact they are getting a nice fat six points tonight and the Bulls are just 12-20 ATS this season, and it seems to point towards a nice Milwaukee cover. Take the Bucks and the points.
Free Pick: Milwaukee Bucks +6
Bonus Picks: Two other games I am wagering today; in the late game, I like Golden State at home against Memphis laying just 1.5. The Warriors continue to be undervalued by Vegas despite their 11-4 home record and fourth-best record in the West. I’ve been profitable betting them most of the season, and their 20-11-1 ATS record is proof they continue to be ignored at bettors’ peril.
One other pick; Atlanta is laying just four at Cleveland tonight. The Cavs are an abysmal 3-12 at home home this season, so don’t let the short road trip scare you away from ATL. I like the Hawks to win and cover with ease tonight.
Free BONUS Picks: Golden State Warriors -1.5 & Atlanta Hawks -4
