We notched a second straight NBA winner last night with the Pistons winning easily at home over the Oklahoma City Thunder. The analysis was spot on in terms of OKC being a little over rated thanks to a nice early record with a lot of close wins over some less-than-great teams. Detroit was only a three point favorite at home, despite being perfect at home this season and facing an OKC team who had also played the night before.
It all added up to a pretty easy winner.
Elsewhere in the NBA, the Celtics continue to underperform, losing a tough game by one at New Orleans to fall to 5-5 on the season. The Grizzlies moved to 5-5 as well, though it is certainly a different 5-5, a more optimistic one to say the least. Expectations are lower in Memphis and a win in Utah spearheaded by VINCE CARTER is always a reason to smile.
And the Clippers. Wow. The Clippers. They moved to 10-1 last night with a total decimation of the Nets, which in itself isn’t impressive, but their ridiculous +16.6 ppg differential is stunning.

Today’s Free Pick:
Chicago Bulls at Portland Trailblazers -3.5
The Bulls have outperformed expectations so far this season but will have a tough task tonight crossing the country and winning a road game at a good Portland team. The Blazers are only 4-2 at home this season, but the losses are Golden State and the Clippers; easily the two best teams in the league. It is perfectly reasonable that this team will win 32-plus home games by the time this season is all over. And it probably goes without saying – Chicago ain’t the Warriors or Clippers.
So why are the Bulls only getting 3.5? Seriously. Why?
This is my favorite line on the board tonight. Sure, Chicago has been very good at times but if yo really look at their wins, their resume begins to pale. Home wins over Orlando, Washington and the Pacers. Road wins at Miami and Brooklyn. Only the Pacers on this list have any realistic playoff aspirations. The rest are among the worst teams in the NBA.
This game isn’t nearly as close as the records or analytics indicate. The Blazers have a large advantage and I expect them to win tonight and cover the spread with a few baskets to spare. I’ll gladly eat the 3.5 points at home.
