Our three-game winning streak ended last night with the Knicks home no-show against Anthony Davis and the visiting Pels. The Brow proved to be too much, pouring in 40 points to go with 18 rebounds and three blocks in a dominating effort. New Orleans was +26 with AD on the floor and completely put the game away in the third quarter before grabbing some valuable rest for he, Jrue and the rest of the starters. It was an uninspired effort for the Knicks to say the least, who had been the best home favorite ATS wager in the NBA heading into last night’s game.
We will try to get back on track tonight with a nice roster of games to sift through, with highlighting including: Celtics @ Raptors, Hornets @ Rockets, Bucks @ Spurs and Cavs @ Jazz.
Here’s my favorite play on the slate.
Today’s Free Pick:
Cleveland Cavaliers at Utah Jazz -2
Here’s all you need to know about how far the Jazz have come lately. They are only two point underdogs against defending NBA Champion Cleveland and LeBron James. And it doesn’t seem ridiculous.
After all, the Jazz are finally healthy with George Hill back manning the point. Rudy Gobert has emerged as a top-five center and swingman Gordon Hayward should make his first All Star appearance in the loaded West. The Jazz are 12-7 at home, and are the third best team in the NBA in defensive efficiency. The guard well, protect the paint, and they don’t turn the basketball over very often.
But, as well as they are playing this season, they are only 5-5 SU in their last ten games and a dreadful 2-8 ATS over that same span. It is also a little concerning if you look at WHO they beat and WHO they LOST against; Wins are Minnesota, Lakers, Nets, Sixers and Suns. Losses are Grizzlies, Celtics, Raptors (twice), Kings and by 32 to Golden State.
In summary – they beat bad teams and lose to good ones.
Cleveland qualifies as a “good one.”
Look for the Cavaliers, who are rested, to come in and play well and handle their business in Utah. It is a tough place to play, but Cleveland is a tough basketball team. They are 10-5 SU on the road. It remains to be seen if Kyle Korver will finally be cleared to suit up – if he DOES, bully for the Cavs. If not, I still like them to cover the slim two points on the road and get the win.
