We snapped our NBA losing skid with a winner in Indiana yesterday as the Pacers easily handled the Raptors to even the series at two games apiece. Toronto is still “on serve” with home court for Game Five (and Game Seven, if nervously needed…), but yesterday’s performance did little to assuage fears from Raptors fans that their team just isn’t postseason-ready. They may well still advance and get through the second round as well, but it is hard to have a lot of confidence or even hope that this squad is going to the NBA Finals.
We dropped the second pick yesterday as the Blazers made a bid to make their series interesting with a tough-fought home court win over the Clippers to push the series to 2-1 LAC. Game Four will not REALLY matter; can the Clippers handle their business on the road and then go home and complete the Gentleman’s Sweep, or does Portland sap precious energy the Clippers will need for their next round meeting with Golden State…
Let’s see if we can cap off the weekend with a nice winner from a packed slate of weekend playoff action.
Today’s Free Pick:
Cleveland Cavaliers -6.5 at Detroit Pistons (TOTAL: 198.5)
The Pistons have talked a pretty good game, but unfortunately haven’t been able to deliver the blustery results on the floor. Cleveland has a commanding 3-0 lead and thanks in part to some yapping by the Pistons, will likely be dialed in and focused on sending them home for the season tonight on Detroit’s home floor.
Cleveland didn’t get a particularly strong of efficient game from King James in Game Three, but they still prevailed 101-90 to notch their second straight cover of the series. Today’s line is a reasonable -6.5, and I think Cleveland covers it. Normally, I’d waver on a closeout game where the pride of the home team looking to avoid embarrassment might be greater than the bored road foe who knows things are comfortably sewn up. But again, I think Cleveland is going to be dialed in tonight, which means Detroit will have a tough time competing.
Cleveland is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games at Detroit and 10-3 in their last 13 visits straight up. Cleveland is clearly the better team, and their Game Three comfortable win, even when not playing their best basketball, is the indication that this series is D-U-N, done. I like King James to come back and play well and to close out the series tonight in Motown.
