Charlotte Hornets vs. OKC Thunder Pick – NBA March 14, 2022

The Charlotte Hornets and Oklahoma Thunder are scheduled to meet at the Paycom Center on Monday night in OKC. The Thunder are on a back-to-back following a 125-118 loss at home versus the Memphis Grizzlies.

It was a loss for the Thunder, but they covered the 15 points after winning the fourth quarter, 39-30. The contest was out of reach by then, and the Grizzlies didn’t give it all, allowing the Thunder to make it a single-digit final score.

The loss for the Thunder was their fifth straight and eighth in their previous ten attempts. This is expected for a Thunder team that is injured and rebuilding.

Even with a healthy unit, the Thunder aren’t expected to be the most competitive squad in the Western Conference. Throw in a long injury report, and the Thunder are playing handcuffed in this one.

The most notable injury is to Luguentz Dort. Dort is one of the more underrated players in the NBA, with the 22-year-old scoring 17.2 points per game and a 40.04 field goal percentage.

Dort is one of the better wing defenders in the league, and he can score efficiently. His defense is probably missed the most, as the Thunder have been especially leaky after his absence.

The Hornets have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league, so it’s going to be tough for OKC to contain their scorers on a back-to-back.

OKC has to have some heavy legs after chasing around the Grizzlies. Charlotte is up and down this season, with a record of 33-35. It has been more of the same inconsistent output recently.

The Hornets have three wins in their previous four attempts, which just about sums up their season. They are coming off a 142-120 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.

Hornets vs. Thunder Prediction:

The Hornets are still scoring without Gordon Hayward on the floor. Terry Rozier is stepping up without Hayward on the floor.

If Rozier can stay in this form once Harward returns, the Hornets are going to be in business. Rozier has scored 31, 30, 14, 25 in his last four games and up to 19.5 points per game.

He and Miles Bridges have ensured that the Charlotte offense is still clicking without Hayward. Bridges is scoring 20 points and 7.1 rebounds a game entering Oklahoma.

The Hornets are first in the league with an average of 114.6 points per game. They are shooting a healthy 46% from the field and can also score on the road.

Charlotte is the best scoring team on the road in the NBA, as the Hornets have averaged 116.1 points a game on 46.4% shooting. As I said, the scoring hasn’t stopped without Hayward.

In their previous five outings, the Hornets have scored 121.5 points per game with a 49.5%. Their philosophy is to press the ball and get out and run. That hasn’t changed without Hayward.

Charlotte Hornets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Trends:

  • 5-1-1 ATS in their previous seven games on the road
  • 14-5 ATS in their previous 19 games as a betting favorite on the road
  • OVER is 5-0 in their previous five games as a bettinng favorite on the road
  • OVER is 13-3 in their previous 16 games versus a team with a winning percentage worse than 40%
  • OVER is 4-0 in their previous four games after a win by more than 10 points
  • 7-3 ATS in their previous ten games after a loss
  • 5-1-2 ATS in their previous eight games on a Monday
  • OVER is 7-1 in their previous eight games at home
  • OVER is 8-2-1 in their previous 11 games as an underdog
  • OVER is 5-0 in their previous five games after covering the spread

Expect the Hornets to be tough to stop after OKC was run over by the Grizzlies last night. The highest-scoring team in the NBA should exploit an OKC defense allowing 130.6 points per game in their last five games.

OKC has been getting torched, with teams shooting better than 50% versus the Thunder in their last five games. Dort’s absence has been significant for OKC.

During that time, opponents are shooting 44.5% from three. Dort back on the wing would help fill that void for the Thunder. Fortunately for the Thunder, the Hornets have problems on their defensive floor.

The Hornets are 28th in the NBA with 114.9 points against per game. Teams are shooting 47.2% with 116.6 points against per game versus Charlotte. This should be high-scoring, with a final score going OVER the total.
