The NBA is set for another busy night of basketball on Wednesday night. In total, there are ten games on the schedule for November 28. One of those games will be between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder. These two teams have had opposite starts to the new season. The Thunder will look to take the home win against a struggling Cleveland team.
The Cavaliers have started out the season with a record of 4-15, which has them sitting in fourteenth place of the Eastern Conference. The only team in the NBA that Cleveland has been better than is the Atlanta Hawks. The Cavaliers lost their last game, but they have won two of their last three games. Cleveland will look to ride that little bit of momentum into Wednesday night’s game.
Oklahoma City has gone 12-7 to start out the new campaign. The Thunder are sitting in fourth place of the Western Conference. Oklahoma City started out the season 0-4, but have since bounced back going 12-3 since. The Thunder are coming off a loss to the Denver Nuggets. They will look to bounce back with a win at home on Wednesday night.
This matchup will be the second and final meeting between Oklahoma City and Cleveland this season. The Thunder have a 1-0 lead in the season series and will look to sweep the Cavaliers on Wednesday night. I believe that Oklahoma City should be able to put away Cleveland on Wednesday night.
Last Season, the Thunder and the Cavaliers met up twice during the regular season. Oklahoma City took the first game on the road 148-124. The second matchup was hosted by the Thunder, but it was Cleveland who stole the spotlight with a 120-112 win on the road. They split the season series last season, but Cleveland’s roster is very different with LeBron James gone.
The first meeting this season was held in Cleveland on November 7. The Cavaliers rookie Collin Sexton was the leading scorer for Cleveland with 15 points. Dennis Schroder had 28 points and 7 assists for the Thunder. Paul George added another 18 points on top of that to give the Thunder the win on the road. Oklahoma City finished with a 95-86 win.
Cleveland has been hit pretty hard with injuries early this season. The Cavaliers are missing Kevin Love and Sam Dekker for an extended period of time. Cleveland could also be without George Hill and David Nwaba as they have missed some action recently. J.R. Smith is also sitting while he waits to get traded. I would not expect him to play on Wednesday night.
The Thunder have had some injury issues early this season as well. Oklahoma City is still missing Andre Roberson as he recovers from his ACL injury last season. The Thunder are also missing Hamidou Diallo and Terrance Ferguson. Oklahoma City has also seen Russell Westbrook miss some time throughout the season with injury.
The Cavaliers have been hurt with injuries more than Oklahoma City. While most of Cleveland’s injuries are in the depth players, the Cavaliers did not have a strong depth core, to begin with. The biggest injury for Cleveland is Kevin Love. Love is the best player on the team, but has struggled with injuries in the last couple of seasons.
The Thunder are missing some depth players, but the biggest absence is Andre Roberson. Roberson is a really good defensive player, but Oklahoma City is still one of the top defensive teams in the NBA this season. The Thunder could benefit from his return, but they have still found ways to win games.
Jordan Clarkson has been Cleveland’s top scorer in Kevin Love’s absence. Clarkson is averaging 15.5 points per game off the bench. The Cavaliers rookie, Collin Sexton, is averaging 14 points per game. Rodney Hood, George Hill, Cedi Osman, and Tristan Thompson are all averaging over 10 points per game as well. The problem on Cleveland’s roster is they don’t really have a player that has the ability to break out when needed.
Oklahoma City has been led by the duo of Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Westbrook is averaging 23 points, 9.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game this season. George has averaged 24 points and 8 rebounds to this point in the season. Dennis Schroder has done a good job coming off the bench this season. He is averaging 27 points per game. Steven Adams has done a solid job holding down the big man role, averaging 15.5 points per game with 10.5 rebounds.
The Thunder’s starting lineup should be able to overpower Cleveland’s starting lineup pretty easily. The Cavaliers best chance is if their bench players are able to put up big numbers on the Thunder’s lineup. Oklahoma City’s biggest weakness is at the Shooting Guard position with Roberson out.
With Oklahoma City hosting this game, I do not believe the Cavaliers will have an easy job keeping up. Cleveland has not been good this season and the Thunder will look to lock up the win. The Cavaliers lineup will not be able to keep up with Oklahoma City. With all the injuries to Cleveland, I believe the Thunder will be able to win at home.
BetOnline has Oklahoma City listed as a -13 against the spread. The Thunder are the better team and they are at home, but 13 points is a lot to cover. While Cleveland has not been great record-wise, they have done well against the spread. Oklahoma City has not been great at pulling away from teams and getting blowout wins. I believe that this will lead to the Cavaliers covering against the Thunder.
