Clippers vs. Celtics Pick – February 5th

We look for a fourth straight NBA winner today in a familiar place - The Chris Paul-less Los Angeles Clippers.  Can the Celtics stay red-hot today on ABC?

The Wizards stayed red-hot last night with an easy win over the New Orleans Pelicans to keep pressure on the rest of the East as they hunt down the top seed.  John Wall continued his excellence, Bradley Beal is healthy, which has often been a major issue, and they are getting great play from Morris, Porter and Gortat to give them one of the best starting lineups in the Eastern Conference.

The winner was our third straight NBA winner, and we will try to keep it going today on a VERY limited slate of action.  You are probably aware today is Super Bowl Sunday, so the NBA wisely steps aside with only three games going off and all tipping before 3pm EST, so if you want a little Big Game appetizer action, be sure to get those plays in early.

Let’s see if we can cap off a pretty awesome three days of hoops (3-0 ATS NBA, 6-1 ATS between NCAA and NBA) with one more winner.

Today’s NBA Pick:

Los Angeles Clippers at Boston Celtics -5.5

This was a line I had to double check, because my first guess (I usually have a pretty accurate idea within a point well before they lines first post) was Boston -7.5 or -8.  I went back to make sure no major injuries or benchings were announced, and there is just Avery Bradley listed as “questionable.”

So that makes the only injury of note (I know, you’ve read this column before, bear with me) CHRIS PAUL.  And really, do you need to know anything else?  The Clippers are 2-5 in their last seven games straight-up, with blowout losses at Philly and Denver and a loss to the Timberwolves.  This team is barely a playoff team without Paul, let alone a legitimate contender in the West.

Meanwhile, Boston is cruising along as the #2 seed in the East, has won six straight and 13 of 17 overall and has posted an 18-8 home record overall this season.  And the Clippers had some road woes even before losing Paul.  They are just 3-10 ATS in their last 13 road games.

I’m not sure what else to say other than to reiterate, this should have been a 7.5 or 8 point line.  -5.5 is pretty surprising and seems like a really nice value play at the very least.  I like Boston to get another double-digit home win today, this time at the beleaguered Clippers expense.

Today’s Pick:  Boston Celtics -5.5
