We notched another NBA winner last night with the Grizzlies stymying Russell Westbrook and the Thunder 100-92. It was our third straight NBA winner and runs the recent mark to 8-2 ATS over the last ten games and a nice tidy 29-13 ATS since the All Star Break (69%). Let’s see if we can keep it rolling on into the playoffs and pick up a few more winners.
Meanwhile, the Thunder’s loss was good for us, but not so great for their still tentative playoff aspirations. I don’t think either they or the Pelicans have a shot of knocking off Golden State, but the Pelicans are making a compelling case for inclusion with yet another win last night to narrow their deficit to just ½ game of the eighth spot. It’s a shame one of these teams will be going home because I think everyone would enjoy seeing both Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis on a larger stage for a few weeks.

Today’s Free Pick:
Los Angeles Clippers -8.5 at Denver Nuggets
Remember when the combination of the altitude and the talented fast-paced Nuggets made Denver an absolute nightmare for road teams? Yeah, those days are long gone. This year the Nuggets have a losing record at home (17-20) and are a far cry from the teams of even a few years ago. The roster is depleted and it is tough to see them beating a motivated Clippers team tonight.
Denver got absolutely blasted by the Spurs last night, losing by thirty in a game that could have been closer to a fifty point margin if San Antonio had any inclination of making things uglier. The Spurs scored an NBA season-high 45 points in the first quarter and never were challenged throughout the game. Their “Big Three” had a career combined low of just 12 points and it absolutely mattered none. Not at all. Complete after thought.
Denver is playing hard at least since the firing of Coach Brian Shaw, but there just isn’t much talent or extra fight left in this squad. Meaning, when they take a punch early, don’t expect them to get off the canvas, much like last night’s “effort”. Look for LAC to get a lead early and to stretch it out quickly and comfortably. The Clippers got most of their media attention lately for losing to the Warriors and Chris Paul’s ankles getting broken – but the bigger story is a team that has won eight of their last ten games and is getting huge contributions from a healthy Blake Griffin just in time for a possible playoff run.
I like the Clips big tonight on the road.
