The Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves meet for what should be a good primetime matchup in Minnesota tonight.
We were unable to say this for the past several years regarding the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves involved in a good matchup? Nah.

Minnesota hopes that the days of talking about this team as a doormat and automatic win for opponents are gone for a long time.
They’ve had some frustrating years, and it might be time for the Timberwolves to return as a team worth talking about.
We said this about the New York Knicks at the same time a year ago. In other words, it is better to be cautiously optimistic regarding the Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves have quietly assembled a pretty good team, though. Anthony Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Patrick Beverley on the floor together makes for a quality lineup.
They are coming off a 125-116 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday after a hard-fought loss in Dallas a couple of days earlier. The Timberwolves put up a solid fight, but it wasn’t good enough in a 110-108 loss.

Minnesota had a good thing going on a four-game winning streak before dropping off. In their latest win, the Timberwolves were in top form with a 138-119 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.

Mavericks vs. Timberwolves Prediction:
The Mavericks didn’t need Luka Doncic in their last time out on the floor. They cleared the Houston Rockets easily for a 110-91 win on Wednesday. Doncic is listed as probable to play in Minnesota tonight.
Pulling away from the Rockets wasn’t tough with their star player, but he may be needed for this one against the much improved Timberwolves. Minnesota almost pulled it off versus Doncic and the Mavs two games back.
KAT had a nice night, as he poured in 22 points and 8 rebounds. He had help from Anthony Edwards with 19 points, and D’Angelo Russell put in 18 points. The Timberwolves won three quarters, but a 37-25 second frame was too much to overcome.
Minnesota has been a much better team at home this season, so we’ll see if a change of scenery helps. I’m sure it will in this one. They are 18-19 on the road and 24-13 at home this season.
The Timberwolves are first in the NBA with 115.4 points per game going into tonight. They have put in a whopping 127 points per game and a 47.4% field goal percentage in their previous five attempts.
The defense needs some work before they’re mentioned as elite, but they are fun to watch, and going to the playoffs is a step in the right direction for this franchise. Minnesota is seventh in the East with a six-game edge on the Clippers.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Betting Trends:
- 14-6-1 ATS in their previous 21 games
- 7-2 ATS in their previous nine games as an underdog
- 4-1 ATS in their previous five games on one-day rest
- 8-0 overall in their previous eight games versus the Western Conference
- UNDER is 5-2 in their previous seven games on the road
- 10-3 ATS in their previous 13 games
- 6-1 ATS in their previous seven games at home
- 10-2-1 ATS in their previous 13 games as a betting favorite at home
- 4-1 ATS in their previous five games after a loss
- 4-1 ATS in their previous five games versus a team with a winning record
The Mavericks have to bring a complete defensive effort with them to Minnesota tonight. If they have an off game on defense, the Timberwolves should run over Dallas.
Despite having Luka Doncic, the Mavs aren’t deep enough offensively to win a shootout versus the T-Wolves. Dallas is 26th in the NBA with 106.7 points per game. They are shooting just 34.3% from three for 24th.
The Mavs likely won’t fade away in this game, but expect the Timberwolves to come out on top. They came close in Dallas and should finish the job this time around at home Friday night.
