The Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors meet at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night in downtown Toronto. The Raptors are coming off a thrilling victory over the Boston Celtics with a 115-83 win. They blew the doors off the Celtics after pulling away in the second-half. The Raptors opened things up after going into halftime with a 4-point lead.
The Raptors went off for a 33-17 3rd quarter, and then extended their lead with a 31-19 4th quarter. It was a great look for a Raptors team that is young and focusing on what could be in the future. Rookie Scottie Barnes played like a seasoned veteran on the floor with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Barnes’ favorite player growing up was Magic Johnson. He emulated his game after Magic, and while this kid has a long road ahead of him if he’s going to be remotely close to accomplishing what he did, you can tell how he’s watched a lot of Magic film. It’s only a two-game sample size of Barnes in the NBA, but he has the tools to become a star with his vision for a guy his size.
The future is bright for Barnes, and the offense is quickly going straight through him despite only playing two games. Having said that, the Raptors are still going to have growing pains at times this season. It’s all part of the learning process for a team rebuilding with a goal of becoming a contender again in two or so years. Learning from failure is not necessarily a bad thing.
With Masai at the controls, you can’t doubt what the Raptors can pull off. The Mavericks head to Canada with a loss on their resume. While the Raptors have played two games already, this representing a back-to-back, the Mavs opened their season on Thursday with a loss. It was a really discouraging performance.

Dallas were on the losing side with a 113-87 loss against the Atlanta Hawks. That’s a very underrated Hawks team, but more has to be expected from the Mavericks. Earth to Kristaps Porzingis, Luka Doncic needs you to step up. Porzingis had an interesting shot selection at times in that one.
Kudos to Jalen Brunson for stepping up for the Mavericks with 17 points off the bench. Doncic finished the contest with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. He needs help in Toronto. Head below for our free Mavericks vs. Raptors pick on October 23, 2021.

Mavericks vs. Raptors Prediction:
The Mavericks must show improved form or they’re going to fall flat in this one. It’s clear that they cannot afford to ignore Scottie Barnes. He’s a dynamic player that can hurt a defense in a lot of ways. Speaking of defense, Barnes is likely going to develop into an elite defender. That is where he’s going to be most helpful in his rookie campaign.
Barnes is going to go through ups and downs offensively, but I am confident his defense should hold. He has tremendous instincts. On a back-to-back, this could be tough for Barnes and the rest of the Raptors, though. It could be tough for this young team to gear down off a high of a big blowout. Mentally they could still be on that high and not focused entirely on the Mavs.
After such a terrible look against the Hawks in their opener, I’m sure that they are going to be focused. The Mavericks finished with a record of 42-30 and 10 games back of the Utah Jazz for the lead in the Western Conference. They’re a much better team than we saw against the Hawks. Again, though, it requires Porzingis working harder than we saw the other day.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Toronto Raptors Betting Trends:
- 8-1 overall in their previous nine games versus the Western Conference
- 5-2 ATS in their previous seven games after a loss
- 5-2 ATS in their previous seven games on a Saturday
- OVER is 8-3 in their previous 11 games
- 1-5 overall in their previous six games
- 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games
- 1-8 overall in their previous nine games
- 0-4-1 ATS in their previous five games as an underdog at Scotiabank Arena
- 0-5-1 ATS in their previous six games at Scotiabank Arena
Like I said, the Raptors are going to have really bright and really dark moments this season. They found no traction in their season opener with a 98-83 loss at home against the Washington Wizards. The offense was building a house with all of their bricks. However, the Raptors responded nicely to off the Celtics in an upset, 115-83.
Which Raptors team is going to be on the floor tonight in Toronto? We should see much better from the Mavericks after a lackluster effort. They went through the motions versus the Hawks and found out that’s not going to work. Against Toronto coming off a big win last night, I think they can catch their opponent with the lackluster outing this time. I’m on the Mavs to beat the Raps by 10 points to win and cover.
