Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz Game 3 Pick – NBA April 21, 2022

The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz shift their seven-game series to Vivint Arena in Utah. The Mavericks and Jazz split the first two meetings in Dallas at the American Airlines Center.

Utah came through with a 99-93 win in Game 1 behind a stout defensive performance. Talent won out, with the Mavericks unable to kick free in the 4th quarter without Luka Doncic on the floor.

Donovan Mitchell and Bojan Bogdanovic combined for 61 points, while Rudy Gobert played a little role on the offensive end. Gobert only scored 5 points, but he collected 17 rebounds to clean up the boards.

The Jazz won the first game with talent, while the Mavericks won because of a determined will and effort. The Mavericks had more energy and it was clear they were the team that wanted to win more.

My selection of the Mavericks in Game 2 was largely based on them being the hungrier team. It worked out well, with the Mavericks winning the contest by a score of 111-104. The game was competitive throughout until the Mavs edged away in the 4th.

The Mavericks needed somebody to step up, and they got it from Jalen Brunson. Brunson went off for 41 points and 8 rebounds. They don’t get the win without Brunson coming through nicely.

Mavericks vs. Jazz Prediction:

As the series shifts to Utah, the Mavericks must be able to find the same energy at Vivint Arena. It also wouldn’t hurt to get another elite performance out of Jalen Brunson.

Brunson was on fire in Game 2, but can we expect that to carry over to Utah? Luka Doncic is very unlikely to play in Game 3. The Mavericks are hopeful, but this does not look good.

The onus is going to fall on Brunson or someone else in the Mavs lineup to step up. I’m more pessimistic about this happening in Game 3 than in Game 2. The Mavericks were propelled by energy from the home crowd.

Over in Utah at Vivint Arena, expect the Jazz to tighten up against the Mavericks. The Jazz were a much better team at home this season. They were below .500 on the road in the regular season.

However, the Jazz were 29-12 at home and had much better offensive production. They have scored 116.8 points per game on a 48% field goal percentage as opposed to less than 113 points a game on the road.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz Game 3 Betting Trends:

  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games as an underdog
  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven quarterfinal games
  • 6-13 overall in their previous 19 games versus the Jazz
  • 9-4 ATS in their previous 13 games as an underdog
  • 7-3 ATS in their previous ten games
  • OVER is 7-2 in their previous nine games

  • 5-1 ATS in their previous six quarterfinal games
  • 9-4-2 ATS in their previous 15 games as a betting favorite at home
  • 7-3 ATS in their previous ten games as a betting favorite
  • 17-7-2 ATS in their previous on a two-day rest
  • 11-1 overall in their previous 12 games versus the Mavericks at home
  • 10-5 ATS in their previous 15 games on a Thursday

This should be tough for the Mavericks on the road without Doncic. Utah is a different team at Vivint Arena, and it should show in Game 3.

Rudy Gobert hasn’t reached double-digit scoring in this series yet. Expect him to have a big game in this one. If Gobert does that then the Mavs are going to be in trouble with Mitchell and Bogdanovic in good form at the moment.

I’m looking at the Jazz to get ahead and pull ahead in the 4th quarter. This may not be a blow out, but the spread tells you everything in this one. The Mavericks at +7.5 looks like a bit on the trap side. With the Jazz at home, look for them to look much improved from Game 2.
