DraftKings NBA Sleeper Picks – December 16th

What’s going on everyone. Alex here, and I am back with my DraftKings NBA sleeper picks for December 16th, 2016. Tonight we get a huge slate with ten games on tap. Be sure to follow all the injury news up until the 7:00 PM EST lock tonight, to see if any new injury news comes up (specifically The Warriors). As always if any of these picks help you win or if you need any advice, let me know  on Twitter. Hunta512.

PG: Ramon Sessions: (3,700) With starting PG Kemba Walker out tonight for personal reasons, Ramon Session’s will start at PG for Friday night’s game vs The Celtics. Sessions is a veteran who is always ready to step up when his number is called upon and he shouldn’t have a problem handling a full work load tonight. This is an average matchup with The Celtics ranking 15th in allowing DK points to PGs, but they currently have a promising opponent +/- of 2.46 to opposing starting PGs.

Sessions averages a decent 0.8 DK points per minute and if he plays the 30 minutes expected he should score us around 25 DK points which is an elite 6.7 point per dollar return at his cheap salary. He looks like one of the safest values of the night, but Fantasy Labs currently only has his ownership projected for 13-16%. I hope this prediction pans out because, at $3,600, he is a core play for me and I am comfortable with him all formats on Friday night.

PG/SG: Garret Temple: (3,800) With Ben McLemore and Rudy Gay both out, Temple got his first start of the season, and scored 31 DK points in 30 minutes vs The Rockets. Both players are not expected to play again tonight and are listed as doubtful for this matchup with The Grizzlies. Temple will remain in the starting lineup and should approach 30 minutes vs this Grizzlies team that allow the 3rd most DK points per game to opposing SGs this season.

Temple has the largest sample size of minutes with the two players off the floor this year (208), and in those minutes his usage has increased a solid 2.7%. The Grizzlies do play at the 3rd slowest pace which limits his upside, but I think he will grind out at least 20 DK points tonight. Outside of top option, James Harden, SG really isn’t the strongest position tonight. If you would rather put your money elsewhere instead of playing Harden, I think punting the position is a good choice with Temple, who is guaranteed minutes in a starting role. Update: McLemore is now probable but Gay and Omri Cassipi are out. Temple should still play alot but will move back to the bench with McLemore back. I now prefer Matt Barnes who is expected to start with Gay and Cassipi out.

PG: Elfrid Payton: (5,100) Payton has been balling in his last two games scoring 54.75 DK points vs The Hawks and 32.25 DK points vs The Clippers on Wednesday. He is finally starting to find his groove as bench player and, in these last two games, he has posted a ridiculous 46.9% assist percentage. Tonight he gets a dream matchup vs The Nets who rank 19th vs PGs and play at the fastest pace in The NBA. This game is one of the stronger game environments of Friday night, with a spread of six points and the slate’s second highest O/U game total of 217.5 points.

His price has seen a slight increase to $5,100 dollars but he still has the potential to return five times value in this perfect matchup. The news we are still waiting for, that would make Payton an even better play tonight, is the status of center Nikola Vucevic.  If Vuc is ruled out tonight after missing the last two games with a back injury, Payton’s usage and assist rate should increase. Vucevic and Payton soak up most of the usage of this Magic team’s second unit and this season when the big man is off the floor, Payton sees a 2.8% usage bump. If Vucevic is in Payton is a nice GPP play but if he misses his third straight game the PG becomes a borderline cash game target and an elite GPP play tonight.

Also Consider: Ty Lawson/ Darren Collison (if Gay and McLemore out), Buddy Hield (if Frazier is out), Sergio Rodriguez, Greg Monroe, Sean Kilpatrick (great play if Jeremy Lin is out), Kelly Oubre Jr. (if Markieff Morris is out, currently a GTD), Louis Williams, Rajon Rondo, Jeremy Lamb, Julius Randle (been playing bad but still very affordable, will be low owned), Sam Dekker (great play if you think this game becomes a blowout), Robert Covington, and Patrick Beverly.
