SG: Sean Kilpatrick: (5,400) Starting PG Jeremy Lin has been ruled out for tonight’s tilt vs The Bulls with a strained left hamstring. After Lin exited in Monday night’s win over The Hornets, Kilpatrick took over as this team’s primary ball handler and scored 23 points, five rebounds, four assists in 32 minutes with a 26.2% usage rate. (36.25 DK points) This wasn’t a surprise at all because when Lin has been off the floor this season, in a huge sample size of 666 minutes, Kilpatrick has posted a high 27.1% usage rate with a 35.7 DK points average per 36 minutes.
Its unclear if he or Isaiah Whitehead will draw the start, but either way he should play 30-35 minutes tonight vs The Bulls. He will mostly play at PG and even though this defense gives up the 6th least DK points to opposing PGs, I am not worried at all about this matchup effecting his production. He has great upside with this expanded role and at $5,400 with an expected low ownership of 2-4% (Via FantasyLabs) he is one of my favorite overall plays of the night.
PG: Austin Rivers: (4,900) With Chris Paul and J.J. Redick out on Monday vs The Nuggets, Head Coach Doc Rivers surprised everyone and started Austin Rivers at PG over Raymond Felton. Coach Rivers wasn’t shy about giving his son as much run as possible and he scored 30.75 DK points in a whopping 42 minutes. (season high) Even though they lost their second straight game, they looked better with Rivers and Jamal Crawford starting and I think we will see the same starting five tonight vs The Pelicans, with Paul and Redick both unlikely to play.
Crawford will lead this team in usage and is a great play in his own right, but I think Rivers is also a terrific value at a cheaper price with an expected lower ownership. (9-12%) This year when Paul and Redick are off the court, Rivers has a 21.9 usage rate which is a nice 3.2% bump. Tonight I am expecting 25-30 DK points with The Pelicans having a solid opponent +/- of 1.16. His price has gone up but he is still a great value at $4,900 and I am comfortable with him in all formats on Wednesday night. Update: Chris Paul is surprisingly active and Redick will remain out. Rivers value takes a big hit but is still viable in GPPs with Redick out.
SG/SF: Jermey Lamb: (3,600) Last game with SG Marco Bellinelli out, Lamb saw more minutes off the bench vs The Nets, and scored 26.5 DK points in 22 minutes. He should be in line for similar playing time tonight with Bellinelli already officially out. 22 minutes doesn’t seem like much, but it’s a lot for Lamb who averages 1.09 DK points per minute this season. Tonight he gets a solid matchup vs The Magic who allow the 12th most DK points to SFs.
When Bellinelli is off the floor this season, Lamb leads this second unit with a 23.9% usage rate, and has a team high DK points +/- of 9.3 points. With over 20 minutes of action he should have no problem returning five times value at his cheap $3,600 price. SF is by the far the weakest position of this slate and as of right now punting the position with Lamb is my preferred way to build lineups on Wednesday night.
Also Consider: Elfird Payton, Shabazz Napier, Garrett Tenple (better if starting), Nikola Mirotic (boost if McDermott out again), Kenneth Faried, D.J. Augustin, Mason Plumlee, Jodie Meeks, Justin Holiday (Courtney Lee is out), Johnathan Simmons (if starting for Leonard), Brandon Bass, Ty Lawson, Rajon Rondo (perfect spot for him vs The Nets who lead the league in pace, but hasn’t seen consistent playing time lately), Pau Gasol (10.8% usage increase with Leonard off the floor), Mo Harkless, Evan Turner, Anthony Tolliver, Joahkim Noah, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Lucas Nogueira (really like if this game becomes a blowout), Marresse Speights, Aaron Gordon (usage rises with Fournier out), Ricky Rubio, and Micheal Carter-Williams.
