PG: Rajon Rondo: (3,900) After bashing his teammates on Instagram about their questionable leadership, Rondo came out and had his best game in a while, scoring 13 points, seven assists, seven rebounds, and three steals in a high 32 minutes off the bench vs The Heat. (37.25 DK points) Its very likely he was very vocal about needing more minutes at the recent team meeting that was held to clear the air between Rondo, Dwayne Wade, and Jimmy Butler. The 32 minutes was the most he has played in the new year and backup PG Michael Carter-Williams has now not played in three straight games as a DNP-CD. This Bulls team is an absolute mess, but it seems like they are going to play him going forward, as news broke today that the team has no plans of buying Rondo out. (via The Chicago Tribune) It seems like they want to showcase the veteran PG and play him a lot to improve his trade value as the trade deadline approaches.
Rondo may not the be the easiest player to deal with, but he is a smart guy who knows he has to play well, if he wants any shot of being traded to a contender. Tonight if he sees 30+ minutes again he will easily hit value in this great matchup vs The Sixers, who give up the 5th most DK points to PGs and will be without their best defender, center Joel Embiid. (knee) This year he is scoring just under 1.0 DK point per and with some extra motivation, if he sees close to 30 minutes, he should score 25+ DK points with upside. He is definitely a risky option, but at only $3,900, with a very low projected ownership of 0-1% (via Fantasy Labs), he is worth a flier in GPPs this evening.
C: Nene: (3,200) Nene has been excellent in his last two games, scoring 35.5 DK points vs The Bucks and 32 DK points vs The Sixers this past Friday. In these two contests, he has been aggressive posting a high 26.2% usage rate and scoring an elite 1.3 DK points per minute. The 34 year-old gets rested when The Rockets play back to back sets, but with this team not playing since Friday and not another game until Tuesday, he should see 20-25 minutes tonight in a starting role.
He is in the best matchup there is for the all the centers playing tonight, going against The Pacers, who give up the 7th most DK points to the position, with a very high opponent +/- of 4.96 points. He is so cheap that he only needs 16 DK points to hit value, but in this matchup I am expecting him to top 20 DK points with some upside if his recent usage continues. At $3,200 he is one of the best punts of this slate and I am comfortable with him in all formats on Sunday night.
PF/C: Dirk Nowtizki: (5,000) After missing one game for rest purposes, Dirk will return and start at center tonight vs The Spurs. His minutes have been unpredictable, but he should not be this cheap, especially after his last game, when he scored 33 DK points in only 25 minutes Thursday night vs The Knicks. Since then his price has dropped $500 and at this salary he needs 25 DK points to return value, which is something he has accomplished in six of his last eight games.
Tonight he gets an average matchup vs The Spurs who rank 15th defending centers this season. But regardless of the matchup, if he sees 25-30 minutes tonight, he has a solid chance of hitting five times value. He also may be in line for some extra usage with guards J.J. Barea and Deron Williams out and, possibly SF Wesley Mathews, who is questionable with a hip injury. It’s a very small sample size, but with the three players off the court this season, Nowitzki posts a nice 27.5% usage rate. He is a solid value at $5,000 who has upside depending on how his minutes are managed tonight.
Also Consider: Lucas Nogueria, Al-Farouq Aminu, Robert Covington/Ersan Ilyasova, Richaun Holmes (if Okafor is out), Eric Gordon, Wesley Mathews (if active), C.J. Miles, Serge Ibaka/Aaron Gordon (if Fournier remains out), C.J. Watson (if starting for Fournier), and Ryan Anderson.
