FanDuel NBA DFS Picks – December 21st

Last night’s NBA DFS picks were derailed before they could ever really get cooking. A Chris Paul injury ruined things in the first half of the Rockets vs. Heat game and while I had a slew of great picks (Derrick Jones, anyone?), it wasn’t to be.

I still placed just because I had so many hands in that Mavs/Clippers game, but the night could have been truly special.

Friday caps the regular work week with a fun 10-game daily fantasy basketball slate. There are a lot of injuries to consider and obviously several game environments we’ll be attracted to.

While you can go down a number of roads, I’m just trying to piece together the best team I lay my eyes on. Here’s what I’m working with at FanDuel tonight:

PG: Fred VanVleet – Toronto Raptors ($5.3k)

Kyle Lowry is out again, so FVV is looking at a starting role and 30-35 minutes. The Raptors will almost certainly house the Cavaliers at home, but they have a fine enough team Total and VanVleet could easily return value in just three quarters.

He feels like a lock for cash and I need the money in GPPs, so I don’t mind if he’s chalky. There are point guards worth paying up for tonight, but nobody is specifically standing out. Paying down at PG might be a good idea on this slate.

PG: Emmanuel Mudiay – New York Knicks ($6.4k)

This Knicks vs. Hawks game is one of the better NBA DFS environments of the entire slate. I also like Trae Young here and Mudiay’s price is obviously getting a bit out of control. However, he’s played well and he’s facing one of the worst on-ball defenders in the league.

Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving are fine studs at PG and Derrick Rose ($7.3k) is probably worth paying for with Jeff Teague still sidelined.

SG: Victor Oladipo – Indiana Pacers ($8.3k)

Dipo is just too cheap. The Nets are a solid matchup and this is another quality DFS spot to attack. Oladipo’s personal matchup looks good on paper and he has way too much upside to be priced this low.

DeMar DeRozan is also very appealing at his current price, but I’ll pay down slightly at the other SG spot.

SG: C.J. McCollum – Portland Trail Blazers ($6.3k)

McCollum is not a guy who often does much beyond score, but he’s too cheap for a player who averages over 21 points per game.

Utah is not an ideal matchup, but he shredded the Grizzlies for 40 points a few games back and is at home. I wouldn’t worry so much about who he’s facing when he’s this cheap.

SF: LeBron James – Los Angeles Lakers ($11.2k)

King James is my stud of choice. He’s at home with an awesome matchup against the Pelicans and there simply aren’t that many elite options on this slate. That’s surprising with 10 games, but I’m only really interested in paying up for about 3-4 guys.

James is my favorite, as he’s fresh off of a 60+ fantasy point outing and has a great chance to deliver a similar performance tonight.

SF: Bojan Bogdanovic – Indiana Pacers ($5k)

If you can find a better SF punt, consider pivoting to it. I like Bojan just fine, though. First off, he gets reliable run over 30 minutes every night and he’s a solid scorer, but he also could play even more with Tyreke Evans banged up.

Oh, and there’s that small thing of returning home for a revenge game against the Brooklyn Nets. Bogdanovic offers solid value tonight and may have a shot at 35-40 fantasy points in this matchup.

PF: Pascal Siakam – Toronto Raptors ($6.7k)

This play is pretty contingent on Serge Ibaka sitting out, but Kyle Lowry is already missing this game, so Toronto will need some scoring. Siakam does a little bit of everything and is a decent GPP flier if Ibaka plays.

If Serge sits, Pascal feels like a must at home versus the lowly Cavs.

PF: Kevin Knox – New York Knicks ($6.3k)

Knox is not always reliable, but his run sure is. He’s playing very well and it’s clear the Knicks have committed to keeping him on the floor. He’s at home against the Hawks and still isn’t egregiously priced, so there’s little reason to be fearful here.

Anthony Davis is the top PF stud by a mile, but he’s in the last game tonight and may be a game-time call. Using him on FanDuel is quite the bold move.

I do like Blake Griffin as a fun pivot off of The Brow, but I’m spending elsewhere tonight.

C: Greg Monroe – Toronto Raptors ($4.3k)

Moose is an elite value play if Ibaka is out again. You can also consider Robert Williams and Jhalil Okafor, the latter of course assuming The Brow and Julius Randle are both out tonight against the Lakers.
