After a quiet two-game NBA DFS preseason slate, things pick up considerably for Wednesday’s eight-game slate at FanDuel. It’s always fun to get more games because it gives way to more options, but it does complicate matters in terms of monitoring player news.
If it wasn’t the preseason, it might be less chaotic. Them’s the breaks, however, so we need to work with the situation we have. I’ll try to update throughout the day as news trickles in, but as I get this started early on Wednesday, I’m just trying to assemble the best possible squad.
Let’s dive in to see what some of my favorite preseason daily fantasy basketball picks are for tonight’s GPPs:
PG: Derrick White – San Antonio Spurs ($3.5k)
White draws the start for the Spurs and could get good run with San Antonio trying to see if he can replace DeJounte Murray in the starting five this year. The jury is still out on him, but at the minimum he has some appeal.
Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum are both out for tonight, so Seth Curry ($4.3k) is another great cheap option.
PG: Stephen Curry -Golden State Warriors ($9.8k)
With Dame out, I’m largely looking to Chef Curry as my elite point guard on this slate. He looked fantastic in his last preseason game and I’m game for him again, provided he starts. Curry vs. the Lakers and LeBron James is always going to be fun and he’s cheaper than John Wall.
Wall is also viable if the run is going to be there, but I like the late-game hammer Curry provides.
SG: Victor Oladipo – Indiana Pacers ($8.8k)
I’m Team Dipo tonight, as the Pacers star was fantastic in his last outing and could keep getting run as he prepares for another big year. There isn’t much to get excited about at shooting guard tonight, so hopefully he’s a full go.
If not, you can drop down to DeMar DeRozan if he’s active.
SG: Tyler Johnson – Miami Heat ($3.9k)
Goran Dragic won’t play tonight, so I have to think TJ has a shot at starting and should see good run, either way. He’s a quality combo guard who can score the ball and get others involved. I’m not infatuated with much at SG beyond Dipo, so this is a lock for me.
SF: Dzana Musa – Brooklyn Nets ($3.5k)
The Nets have a slew of players sitting tonight, but from what I can tell the talented Musa isn’t one of them. I don’t love the idea of him potentially lining up across from Kawhi Leonard, but I’ll still roll the dice based on the savings.
SF: LeBron James – Los Angeles Lakers ($11.7k)
Luke Walton has suggested his starters could get some extra run against the defending champs, so I have to roll King James out there. Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard are awesome pivots off of him and save some cash, but if there’s a chance Bron Bron will be low-owned I have to take on that risk.
You can stick with James here, but the Raptors are playing their starters a good amount tonight. Kawhi is my top SF play. I do love James, though, as he could be low-owned.
PF: Blake Griffin – Detroit Pistons ($8.2k)
The Pistons starters are playing, so unless we catch wind they’re limited, I will take a shot on the versatile Griffin. He was money in his preseason debut and I have to think he can keep it rolling against the Wizards. Deandre Ayton is a great pivot whether you like Blake or not.
PF: Cheick Diallo – New Orleans Pelicans ($3.5k)
Anthony Davis and a bunch of Pels stars are sitting tonight. Julius Randle will be the popular name, but this is his first preseason game and he should be limited. I’m more interested in Diallo, who racks up stats and should get good run in this one. It doesn’t hurt that PF is kind of weak tonight and he’s the bare minimum at FanDuel, either.
C: Hassan Whiteside – Miami Heat ($6.9k) Given the fact that teammate Goran Dragic is out and Miami’s front line is now healthy, I’m not quite as gung-ho on Hassanity as I usually am. I do like him a lot tonight, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he was scratched. I’m keeping my options open at center, but for now he’s a great way to end this lineup. He’s had an excellent preseason thus far.
Whiteside has been ruled out. The Magic will be rolling out their starters for about 30 minutes tonight, so Nikola Vucevic is my top center pick. With Whiteside out, Bam Adebayo ($4.1k) is a solid punt option.
I really like this team as it stands, but I expect to be pretty fluid with my roster tonight. News is slowly trickling in, but lineups don’t lock at FanDuel for almost five hours (at the time of this writing). Stay on your toes and consider some of the pivots I mentioned. If you don’t get concrete word on some of the guys above, feel free to switch to guys with locked in minutes.
As things stand, this team is pretty fun. The spares should get good run and a core of LeBron/Steph/Whiteside/Blake/Dipo is pretty daunting. Let’s hope it leads us to a big win. Good luck!
