FanDuel NBA DFS Preseason Picks – October 12th

After a tiny two-game slate on Thursday, the 2018-19 NBA preseason wraps up with a whopping 10-game schedule on Friday night. This is a loaded slate for NBA DFS purposes, but a ton of these teams will not be risking star players with the start of the regular season just days away.

The focus here should mostly be on rookies and players looking to make a name for themselves, while you can go hard at any regular starters that will be handed heavy run. A lot of news will trickle in throughout the day, but you still need to start somewhere.

Here’s a look at some of my favorite preseason NBA DFS picks for Friday at FanDuel:

PG: Luka Doncic – Dallas Mavericks ($6.4k)

I haven’t had a chance to roster Doncic yet, so maybe bias is clouding my judgment here. I don’t think so, though, as he’s a great scorer and an overall versatile DFS producer. Provided he isn’t randomly out or insanely limited, he’s one of my favorite plays on this NBA DFS preseason slate.

PG: Trae Young – Atlanta Hawks ($6.1k)

Bryn Forbes ($3.5k) will start for the banged up Spurs and is an awesome value play. He also might be chalky, so I’ll fade him and roll out Young, who is slowly turning into a DFS goldmine. The Hawks are bad and a date with the Heat isn’t ideal, but Young will hoist and get dimes like crazy. I love the upside and he’s not even expensive.

SG: James Harden – Houston Rockets ($11.4k)

Harden is the top stud on the board for me tonight, as he’s at a position of weakness in my opinion. I don’t love a road tilt with a slow, defensive Grizzlies team, but he always has upside and the Rockets give their main guys pretty good run.

SG: C.J. McCollum – Portland Trail Blazers ($6.9k)

McCollum sat out Portland’s last game, so there’s a good chance he starts and plays a good deal of this game. I do not love shooting guard tonight with Jimmy Butler out, so I’ll eat up this value ith pleasure.

SF: Kevin Knox – New York Knicks ($5.1k)

Knox has regressed in his last two preseason outings, but hopefully tonight he can finish on a high note. He’s gearing up for a huge role as a rookie and he’s simply too cheap to ignore here. Brandon Ingram ($6.8k) is getting loads of preseason minutes and is worth a look if you want to spend a little extra cash.

SF: Kevin Durant – Golden State Warriors ($10.6k)

Giannis Antetokounmpo is my favorite SF option, but I have save $1.2k here and get a stud and a nice pivot in KD. Assuming the Dubs aren’t rested or severely limited, he’s an elite play and a fantastic late-game hammer.

PF: Ante Zizic – Cleveland Cavaliers ($3.5k)

Cleveland is sitting both Kevin Love and Larry Nance on Friday, among others. Zizic has already been named a starter for tonight and are the bare minimum is a very attractive salary saver. He has double-double upside and was good in the summer league, so there’s some solid upside here.

PF: Bobby Portis – Chicago Bulls ($4.9k)

Portis has been quite good throughout the preseason and he should be in for some more run with Lauri Markkanen still missing time. I also like Blake Griffin and Aaron Gordon if you have money to spend, but PF feels like a pretty good spot to save tonight.

C: Alex Len – Atlanta Hawks ($5.1k)

Lensanity feels like a solid play, as the Hawks are down their top two big men and he should continue to get loads of run. I don’t love that he’s facing Hassan Whiteside, but at least that matchup should help his minutes.
