FanDuel NBA DFS Preseason Picks – October 8th

NBA preseason DFS returns on Monday with a beautiful seven-game slate. The fake games are starting to wind down for daily fantasy basketball and before you know it the regular season will be here.

I prefer the real stuff just like everyone else, but there are ways to exploit the weirdness of preseason action and make some cash. Let’s see if we can’t do that tonight with a look at some of my favorite preseason NBA DFS picks at FanDuel:

PG: John Wall – Washington Wizards ($10k)

D.J. Augustin and the rest of the Magic starters are slated for 30+ minutes of work tonight. They’ll be chalky, though, so I’m going to pick my spots rather than blindly stack them. I also don’t mind Trey Burke ($4.1k) here if you’re seeking value.

However, provided Wall gets decent run I am going to pay up and secure him at what will likely be low ownership.

PG: Stephen Curry – Golden State Warriors ($9.8k)

Ditto for Chef Curry, who misses Golden State’s last preseason game and is no sure thing for tonight. You’re risking it all with NBA DFS preseason lineups no matter what, so I love the idea of an elite late game hammer that few will be rostering.

SG: Victor Oladipo – Indiana Pacers ($8.8k)

Shooting guard isn’t loaded tonight, so I’m definitely paying for Dipo if he’s out there. He rested in his last game, so I’m assuming he’ll play and get 20-25 minutes. If so, he’s a locked in stud on this slate.

SG: Joe Harris – Brooklyn Nets ($3.9k)

Jeremy Lamb is another guy to look at here, but with a couple of Nets banged up I think a cheaper Joe Harris looks like a solid value pick. Harris doesn’t do a whole lot beyond scoring, but he costs next to nothing and could get some nice run tonight.

Luke Kennard will be low-owned and is an interesting bench option tonight as well.

SF: Kevin Knox – New York Knicks ($5.1k)

Kevin Durant is the top SF on this slate by a mile, but I will be spending my cash elsewhere and won’t be able to cram him in. I love him if he plays, though, as his steep price will drive ownership down.

That being said, I can’t help but keep going back to the talented Knicks rookie. New York has to keep trying to get him ready for a big first-year role, while his versatility makes him a steal at this bargain price.

SF: Larry Nance – Cleveland Cavaliers ($6.2k)

Kevin Love has been ruled out for this one, so you can freely look to Cavs big men for help tonight. I’ll go with Nance, who could get the start and perform well in a nice matchup. He has really nice upside when it comes to peripherals and he could be active as a scorer in this one, too.

PF: Wendell Carter Jr. – Chicago Bulls ($5.3k)

Blake Griffin makes his preseason debut tonight, but he’s supposedly limited and isn’t an option for me. I like DeAndre Ayton here, but as of now I can’t afford him. I’ll drop down to Carter, who has had a really nice summer and preseason and should continue to get some decent preseason minutes.

PF: Aaron Gordon – Orlando Magic ($7.3k)

The Magic starters will get 30-32 minutes, so AG is a lock for me. He’s just so versatile and explosive that I won’t be able to fade him with guaranteed run. Miami isn’t a great matchup, but Gordon is a good price and brings upside to the table.

C: Willy Hernangomez – Charlotte Bobcats ($3.5k)

My first instinct here was Hassan Whiteside, while Nikola Vucevic is worth a look thanks to Orlando giving their top guys nice run. However, I am paying up at both PG spots and need some more savings. I don’t mind rolling the dice with Willy, who has been a monster on a per minutes basis.

Charlotte keeps taking it easy on Cody Zeller, too, so the run should again be there for Hernangomez to make some things happen.

Summary

I’m starting things off by stacking two elite point guards that I’m hoping few will be pairing together. If so, I like the value plays the rest of the way well enough that I think I can rise up the standings tonight.

Feel free to pay up for Vucevic and/or KD on this slate and just drop down from one of the pricey point guards to help make that happen.

Hopefully I help you in some way tonight. Either way, good luck and enjoy the games!
