Grizzlies vs. Clippers NBA Pick – November 4th

Just when we were feeling comfortable with some of the new NBA season’s narratives…

Cleveland stinks! Well, except when they go on the road and hang 130 points on Washington behind a ridiculous 56 from LeBron. So, perhaps the Cavs don’t stink after all.

The Magic are legit! And then their 6-2 start gives way to an 18-point home loss to the Chicago Bulls. Huh?

And the Celtics aren’t dead. Far from hit. The C’s ripped off a seventh straight win since losing Gordon Hayward, this time in dramatic comeback fashion on the road in Oklahoma City. Right now, it is hard to argue anyone other than Boston is the best team in the Eastern Conference…

We came up a few points short on the OVER in Detroit as Milwaukee stumbled a bit offensively trying to find some help for Giannis (watch for this recurring theme this season), snapping our four game NBA winning streak. We will try to start a new one tonight with a crowded slate of NBA action to choose from.

Today’s NBA Pick:

Memphis Grizzlies at Los Angeles Clippers -5 (Total: 199)

This is a good matchup on paper; two of the more impressive early season teams in the Western Conference squaring off at Staples Center. But there could be some health issues lingering for the Grizzlies than will impact this game. Before the season, and for the first two weeks or excitement, I have remained steadfast in my “wait and see” approach to both these teams because of their long-standing checkered injury history to their respective best players. Here we go, just three weeks in…

Mike Conley is upgraded to “probable” for tonight, but the fact it was a question is never a great sign before signing up for a night with Patrick Beverly draped all over you for 48 minutes. Marc Gasol is questionable. That’s a problem for sure.

Here’s a few more: The Grizzlies are 1-4 ATS in their last five games. They are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. Dating back to last season, they are 1-10 SU in their last eleven road games.

Meanwhile, the Clippers enter healthy and are a nice 5-2 ATS in their last seven games at home. They are also 4-1 ATS in their last five head-to-head against the Grizzlies, though admittedly, these are two different teams this season, especially the Paul-less Clippers.

Either way, home court, recent play, and health; all advantages favor the Clippers. I’ll take the smart play today and back the home squad. Just a note, if you like this pick, this is an early game this afternoon with a 3:30 EST tip-off.
