Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks Pick – NBA October 26, 2021

The Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks have a Tuesday night meeting at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks return home to Texas following a successful trip north to Toronto.

They pulled away in the 4th quarter to clear the Raptors by a score of 103-95. This was a nice response for the Mavericks after showing little in a 113-87 loss versus the Atlanta Hawks.

That’s the only two games that the Mavericks have played this season. It’s been a mixed bag, but I like the intensity defensively at least. On a decent shooting night like we’re accustomed to seeing from the Mavericks, they probably win that game versus the Hawks.

The defense travelled to Toronto, where they held the Raptors to 95 points in an encouraging effort. The Raptors aren’t great, but they’re a scrappy team that can be tough to put away at Scotiabank Arena.

Dallas are a team that is probably going to have to make a big move at the trade deadline to become a serious contender. Obviously Luka Doncic is a special talent, but putting another star with him on the floor would be huge.

Kristaps Porzingis is hot and cold and isn’t star status. Mark Cuban likely can’t swing a deal to bring in a star at the deadline, so the best hope for the Mavericks might be Porzingis catching fire, which is possible.

His defense has to come around if the Mavericks are going to have a chance, and I liked what I saw against the Raptors anyway. For the Mavericks, this game is about neutralizing and frustrating rookie Jalen Green.

Green sprang to life versus the Boston Celtics with 30 points on 11 of 18 shooting. He went off from deep with 8 three balls on 10 attempts. There’s going to be a target on his back in Dallas, so we’ll see if he can stay hot after scoring in the single digits in his first two games. Rockets vs. Mavericks Prediction:

The Mavericks opened the season in Atlanta, and then they flew north to Canada for a meeting with the Toronto Raptors. In other words, this is their home-opener in Dallas tonight. They were not shooting well on the road.

The Mavericks scored 95 points per game and shot 37.5% from the field versus the Hawks and Raptors. That was well below expectations for the Mavericks. You don’t expect to see that with a team that has Luka Doncic on the floor.

I’m confident that the Mavericks are going to come out at the American Airlines Center shooting well. They are not going to be held down for long, especially against a beatable Houston defense. The Rockets have made strides since James Harden left, but there is work to do.

Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks Betting Trends:

  • 6-3 ATS in their previous nine games
  • 3-15 overall in their previous 18 games
  • 1-5 ATS in their previous six games versus the Southwest Division
  • 0-8 overall in their previous eight games on the road
  • 19-43 ATS in their previous 62 games on a day rest

  • 2-5 ATS in their previous seven games
  • 1-4 ATS in their previous five games at the American Airlines Center
  • 1-7 overall in their previous eight games versus the Rockets at the American Airlines Center
  • OVER is 4-2 in their previous six games versus the Rockets

Despite Jalen Green going off against the Celtics, the Rockets still lost by a score of 107-97. Without Green there, it would have been a huge blowout.

They opened the year in bad form with a 124-106 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but stabilized with a 124-91 win over the OKC Thunder.

The only team that the Rockets have looked great against was a bad Thunder squad. Green kept the Rockets around versus the Celtics, but they can’t depend on him going off like that every night as a rookie.

While the Mavs did nothing to excite the sense offensively in their first two games on the road, their defense was playing well. This time in their home-opener in Dallas, expect the offense to come along. I like the Mavericks for a 116-101 win or thereabout in this one.
