We notched an NBA winner last night as the Thunder did just as prescribed; kept the game close and interesting for three-plus quarters before retreating into an offensive shell and tallying just 17 points in the final quarter in yet another late offensive meltdown. The loss in San Antonio is no big deal. Everyone loses at the Spurs. Literally. All 32 games on the Riverwalk this season have ended with the Silver and Black tallying the W. But HOW the Thunder keep losing to good team, losing leads late and failing to execute down the stretch, is disturbing.
Only the Sixers have a worse record when leading after three quarters this season. Only the Sixers…
Is it that OKC is too iso-dependant? Is it a chemistry issue? Or is it that they just aren’t quite as good as most of us have been led to believe? Whatever the issue, it is hard to see the Thunder getting to the Conference Finals, let alone competing for an NBA Championship as currently constructed.
Let’s see if we can notch another winner today.

Today’s Free Pick:
Utah Jazz -2.5 at Sacramento Kings
Boogie Cousins is back from his one-game team-imposed suspension and ready to play tonight at the Sleep Train Arena. How fractured his relationship with George Karl and the team may or may not be has been a topic of a lot of stories, but personally, it seems like the same story that’s been written about DeMarcus for the last seven years, just inserting a different coaches name, MadLib’s style. Boogie is (angry adjective) with (Coach Name) over (random incident).
But it hasn’t affected his play on the court. He is the fourth leading scorer in the NBA, rebounding with ferocity, and frankly, if the Kings were a solid playoff team, he’d be a top four MVP candidate instead of a borderline All Star selection.
The Jazz are favored on the road today, something that makes me a little nervous as a bettor. Utah is just 10-22 on the road this season and 13-19 ATS on the road. They have gone 1-4 ATS in their last five games and lost four of five straight up as well. This just isn’t a very good road team, and I’m kind of surprised they are favored.
Utah is 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight roadies. Sacramento’s numbers aren’t good either; 1-8 SU in their last nine, 2-7 ATS. But they are catching points at home after a day’s rest against a non-playoff team. There is way too much value in that one to ignore.
I’ll take Boogie with a vengeful, feisty return to action and the Kings to grab a home win.
