We closed 2014 on a nice note with a 2-0 day overall in NBA and college hoops. Our NBA winner was notched with relative ease as Milwaukee simply took apart the Cavaliers in Cleveland. As projected, the Cavs opted to sit both LeBron and Love, so the loss isn’t “troubling” so to speak, but it is yet another indication of how far away this team is from being a true championship contender. They certainly lack some depth but more importantly they seem to lack the resolve of a team like the Spurs.
Meanwhile, there is on denying the passion and effort of Russell Westbrook, but it bubbled just a little too hot last night after his excessive taunting of the Suns bench earned him his second technical foul and a early trip to the showers. The good news for the Thunder was that Durant was back to pick up the slack and threw in 44 points in his return to the lineup. Welcome back KD!
We will try to start 2015 off the same way we ended 2014; with a winner. So let’s dive in to today’s free NBA pick.

Today’s Free Pick:
Sacramento Kings -3 at Minnesota Timberwolves
The Kings started the year off looking like a team that could surprisingly contend for the playoffs. To say things have fallen apart the last three weeks would be an understatement. First they fired a coach who had the team off to their best start in 12 years. Next, their star player contracts a mysterious case of meningitis. Even after Boogie returned, there’s been little to boogie about in Sac-Town. The Kings have lost eight of their last ten games and are just 4-14 in their last 18 games. It’s been a train wreck to say the least.
Not that things are much better in Minnesota. The Timberpups have dropped nine in a row. But if you look a little deeper you see a competitive team that is coming up just short. They’ve covered three games in a row while the Kings haven’t won a single game against the spread in their last ten outings (0-8-2 ATS). That’s the sign of a team that is imploding in all possible facets. Yet Vegas has them as a road favorite tonight.
I’m going to go with the home team sensing they finally have a good chance to notch a win and to a good, confident performance from the young Wolves. They should find some confidence tonight against the second most-porous defense in the NBA, allowing 48.9% shooting from the field. Look for big games from some of the young T’Wolves and to them leading the charge to a rare victory.
