The Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets are at the Toyota Center on Sunday afternoon. Memphis enters Texas with a record of 48-23 and the second-best team in the Western Conference.
They are second, but a mile behind the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have cleared the rest of the West by nine games, as they have things on cruise control late in the regular season. It’s highly improbable they are getting caught.

There is still a tight race for second in the West, though. The Golden State Warriors trail the Grizzlies by a half-game going into Sunday. While the Suns are well ahead, the playoffs will be wide-open.
Don’t put it past the Grizzlies to go the distance to the Western Conference Final. They’ve beat expectations this season and may do it in the playoffs as well.
It isn’t hard to find people that won’t give up on the Lakers. You will still find people more confident in the Lakers than the Grizzlies. If you’re looking for them, just look at the media or social media.
The Rockets are in the abyss of the NBA with a record of 17-53 and dead last, but there are some building blocks in Houston, like Christian Wood. They currently would have the best odds to win the draft lottery.

On Friday, Memphis is coming off a 120-105 loss to the Atlanta Hawks to end a four-game winning streak, while the Rockets were 121-118 losers to the Indiana Pacers two days back for their fourth straight loss.

Grizzlies vs. Rockets Prediction:
There is no secret at this point that the Memphis Grizzlies are a good team. However, it seems like people fail to recognize how good they are.
I guess the Grizzlies aren’t good for ratings like the Lakers. Fortunately, Ja Morant has started to get fair recognition for his work. Morant has scored 27.6 points per game and a 49.3% field goal percentage.
The Grizzlies are the fifth-best team with 114.6 points a game in the NBA. They’ve been on fire through their previous five attempts, with 123 points per game and a 47.4% field goal percentage.
The Grizzlies should rake in this one against this close to useless Houston defense. While Morant is OUT with a knee injury on Sunday, expect Memphis to still flow offensively.
On Tuesday, Memphis was without Morant against the Pacers, and they still scored 135 points in a 135-102 win. If you remember, Morant was booed after he struggled for a couple of games early in the season after a return.
The Grizzlies were still scoring. This isn’t to say the Grizzlies are better off without Morant, especially in a seven-game series. However, they are still fine, and expect a big showing against the Rockets’ defense.
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Houston Rockets Betting Trends:
- 1-4 ATS in their previous five games on the road
- 19-8 ATS in their previous 27 games as a betting favorite
- 8-1 ATS in their previous nine games after a loss
- OVER is 4-1 in their previous five games as a betting favorite
- OVER is 6-2 in their previous eight games versus a team with a winning percentage worse than 60%
- 0-7 ATS in their previous seven games after failing to cover the spread
- 12-28 ATS in their previous 40 games
- OVER is 5-2 in their previous seven games versus a team with a winning percentage better than 60%
- OVER is 13-6 in their previous 19 games at home
- OVER is 8-4 in their previous 12 games versus the Southwest Division
The Rockets are 30th in the NBA with 118.4 points per game and a 48.4% field goal percentage allowed. There hasn’t been any sign of improvement recently, either.
In their previous five attempts, they have allowed 124.6 points per game and a 49.2% field goal percentage. Houston gave up at least 121 points in five of their last six outings going into this one.
The last time these two met two weeks back, the Rockets were the team scoring more than 121 points, though. The Rockets won in an upset as a 10.5-point underdog, 123-112, at home on that day.
Houston has been serviceable at home this season, with an average of 111 points per game on 46% shooting. The Grizz are solid, but the blueprint to beating them is against their defense, which is allowing 109.5 points a game for 13th in the league.
I’m looking at a high-scoring game at the Toyota Center in Texas on Sunday afternoon. The OVER appears like the best bet to look at if you want to play the Grizzlies and Rockets.
