Memphis Grizzlies vs. New York Knicks Pick – NBA April 9, 2021

The Memphis Grizzlies look to stay hot in New York at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The Grizzlies take a four-game winning streak with them into MSG this evening. They are also winners in five of their previous six outings. And most importantly, the Grizzlies have covered in 10 of their last 11 outings. For sports bettors, that’s what is most important.

A cover is a win according to my sportsbook. Overall on the season, the Grizzlies have been a profitable bet with a mark of 31-18-0 ATS. They are coming off a 131-113 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. The fact that the Grizzlies didn’t have a letdown after beating the Heat the night before, 124-112, was an impressive feat.

The Grizzlies are currently in the midst of a four-game road trip. They can sweep and go home to Tennessee with a record of 4-0 on this road trip with a win against the Knicks tonight. Who they’ve beaten has been the most impressive aspect of this stretch for the Grizzlies. Heading into New York, they have wins against the 76ers, 116-100, Heat, 124-112, and Hawks, 131-113.

It would have been easy for the Grizzlies to take the night off in Atlanta following their win against the Heat in Miami, but they picked right up where they left off for even more of a lopsided victory. The Grizzlies head into Friday night with a record of 26-23 on the season. There is no time for them to get lazy now. Despite their hot run recently, the Grizzlies need all of the wins they can get.

Memphis is currently eighth in the West with a two-game advantage on the San Antonio Spurs for the final playoff spot. They’re two games behind the Dallas Mavericks for seventh in the conference. If the Grizzlies can keep this form up, they certainly aren’t a team I’d want to play in the playoffs even as a high seed. They take on a Knicks team looking to sneak into the playoffs as well.

The Knicks have been ahead of schedule this year, and have shown nice improvement over last season. They finished with a mark of 21-45 last season and 17-65 the previous year in 2018-19, so some progress is being made. It’s important to note that the Knicks haven’t been in the best of form recently, though. They have lost five of their previous six outings to drop to 25-27. Head below for our free Grizzlies vs. Knicks pick on April 9, 2021.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. New York Knicks NBA Betting Odds:

  • Grizzlies -1 (-110)
  • Knicks +1 (-110)

  • Grizzlies -120
  • Knicks +100

  • Over 213.5 (-110)
  • Under 213.5 (-110)

Grizzlies vs. Knicks Prediction:

The Grizzlies have a well-balanced team that are a bit like the Phoenix Suns lite. I don’t think they have the firepower to get by a top team in the West, but they would make a team work in a seven-game series. Ja Morant is really coming into his own as a franchise player for the Grizzlies. His development has put the Grizzlies in a better position than they were expected to be at this point in the season.

Morant has scored 18.8 points and 7.4 assists per game. For a 21-year-old, Morant sees the floor exceptionally well. He doesn’t necessarily have to score to contribute in games. Morant has helped lead the Grizzlies to 112.5 points per game for 15th in the NBA. They have been better recently than their overall numbers indicate, though. Memphis has notched an average of 119.6 points per game through their last five outings.

The defense has been in fine form with 108.8 points against during that five-game stretch. Memphis has actually performed better on the road than they have at home this season. Note that the Grizz sport a record of 14-9 as a visitor as opposed to 12-14 at home. They are netting 116 points, and allowing an average of 110.9 points per game on the road. In other words, playing without home court advantage in the playoffs shouldn’t be much of a problem for the Grizzlies.

The Knicks have leaned on their defense to carry them this season. Derrick Rose was a fine acquisition, but he doesn’t solve their scoring problem. If Julius Randle and RJ Barrett aren’t playing up to their full potential in games, the Knicks have a tendency to completely bog down offensively. The Knicks are 28th in the league with 104.9 points scored per game.

Their league-leading defense, which is conceding only 104.1 points per game is helping keep them in the playoff picture in the East. The Grizz enter MSG hot, though, and playing much more balanced basketball than the Knicks. I think the spread is two or three points too short here.
