NBA Picks and Predictions for February 1st

It just feels cruel at this point. Alas the Cavs took the floor last night down in Miami. This time the game came without fanfare and a lot of attention. There was no multiple day media circus leading up to the game, after all, if you get over the fact that LeBron used to play for the visitors, all you were left with was a really bad team travelling to play a really good one; a game in which the seventeen point spread seemed about right.

Miami covered the seventeen with ease, winning 117-90. The Cavaliers returned home losers once more, a familiar result these days in Cleveland for the team with the worst record in the NBA.

It’s kind of hard to look back to the opening week of the NBA, when the Cavs took down the mighty Celtics at home and some in Cleveland and even the media tried to convince themselves that Cleveland was better off without LeBron James.

I guess not.

Today’s Free NBA Picks:

Boston Celtics @ Sacramento Kings +6.5 (Total: 192)

Sacramento is another one of those Western Conference teams with tantalizing young talent, a decent home record – yet no hope of making the Playoffs in the loaded West. Tonight they host the East’s finest in a game they should lose.

However, those seem to be the games in which the young Kings play their best. They have won two straight at home against playoff caliber teams, New Orleans and the Lakers.

Boston is the best defensive team in the league in terms of FG%, Sacramento is a team with young players who have a tendency to get frustrated when shots aren’t falling, especially young power forward DeMarcus Cousins. Tending with Kevin Garnett and company tonight might be a tough assignment for the volatile forward.

Boston, however is on the eight game of a long west coast road trip and would seem ripe for the picking. I think Boston wins, but gets a tough fight from the Kings tonight on their home floor. Give me Sacramento at home plus the six and a half

PICK: Sacramento Kings +6.5 (-115) @ <- $1000 sign up bonus for super bowl week

Washington Wizards @ New Orleans Hornets -9 (Total: 188)

New Orleans has dropped two straight games, but nothing cures the blues like a visit from the hapless Washington Wizards. Not only are the Wizards bad on the road, they are on the verge of becoming historically bad on the road; they have lost ALL 24 road contests so far this season. Believe it or not, they still have five losses to go to eclipse the record set by the Mavs back in the early nineties, but it certainly seems possible at this point.

Look for New Orleans to ramp up one of the best defenses in the league and cause fits for John Wall and his rather limited supporting cast. The Hornets will be playing without Emeka Okafor tonight, but should be able to compensate just fine without a real post presence to have to worry about from Washington.

New Orleans Chris Paul versus John Wall is a matchup worth tuning in for, but I see the veteran Paul cruising to the easy win tonight at home.

Gimme the Hornets laying the ten in an easy home win.
