NBA Picks and Predictions for January 30th

It’s like a Holiday in the NBA whenever the Celtics and the Lakers hook up. Today’s matchup is the biggest marquee game the league can serve up, so be sure to enjoy it.

Heading into the season if someone told you one of these two teams would be looking pretty old you would have bet your house the team in question was the Boston Celtics. However it’s the Lakers who have been looking a little slow, prompting the Logo, Jerry West to question the champs mettle for the Three-peat.

The Celtics on the other hand look fantastic and vibrant and are running away with the Eastern Conference. Dont be surprised if Boston becomes only the second team in the shot clock era to send four players to the All Star Game.

Denver Nuggets @ Philadelphia 76’ers -2 (Total: 208)

Philadelphia has won two in a row against Denver, erasing large second deficits in both to steal the victory. The Sixers have been good in general on their home floor, and a six games over .500 in their own gym.

However, those last two wins are a little misleading as the both came without Carmello Anthony. With him the Nuggets are 8-3 versus Phily over the course of ‘Melo’s career.

The drama hasn’t quieted but Anthony is still a Nugget for now and he and his NBA leading offense at 107.2 ppg is coming to town on fire, looking to capture a sixth straight win.

I like the Nuggets on the road straight up, but will take the two points as well

Free Pick: Denver Nuggets +2 (-110) @ Bookmaker.com <-$500 bonus

New Orleans Hornets @ Phoenix Suns -2 (Total: 195.5)

The Phoenix Suns story is very similar to Phily’s; they’ve had recent success against the Hornets – however their past three wins have come without Chris Paul.

Steve Nash is an ageless wonder. At 38 years old he is still playing at an elite level. However Chris Paul is a nearly impossible cover for Nash and the Suns. Look for Paul to carve up an already generous Suns defense and create tons of easy buckets for teammates.

New Orleans is coming off their first loss in three weeks, a disappointing 102-96 loss to the Sacramento Kings. They are 12-3 this season in games following a loss – that tells me to expect a focused Hornets team tonight exploiting a really good matchup and stealing a valuable Western Conference road win.
